Sleep deprivation, hunger and having to pull a suitcase behind you while trying not to collapse are the usual symptoms of flying into a new city late at night, however one of the few saving graces is the view you can get looking over the illuminated cityscape. Witnessing the streets and landscapes glowing with life is always awe-inspiring, as a reminder of humanity’s technological advancement. Paying homage to this unique view is the Vacheron Constantin Métiers d’Art Villes Lumières collection, with each reference showcasing one of the world’s great cities.

Originally launched in 2016 with vistas of Geneva, Paris and New York, the collection has also expanded to include Beijing and Tokyo. In celebration of the new Vacheron Constantin flagship boutique in Sydney, a Villes Lumières piece featuring Sydney’s striking aerial view has been produced stretching from Darlinghurst in the South, crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, up to Neutral Bay. Aside from the bombshell news of Sydney finally gaining a Vacheron Constantin boutique, it’s quite the honour to be recognised as a great romantic city by such a lofty brand.

In this video, Andrew takes a walk through the streets of Paris with Vacheron Constantin’s Heritage and Style Director, Christian Selmoni. While discussing the new release, Christian introduces the work of Japanese artisan Yoko Imai. The Villes Lumières collection is her masterpiece, using some of the smallest calligraphy brushes imaginable to place down the city lights which are made from gold, platinum, and diamond powder for unmatched sparkle. Between 20,000 and 50,000 individual dots make up the intense and dazzling display, which has incredible depth when viewed at low angles. Completing this work of art is a 40mm white gold case and the calibre 2460 movement, featuring a 22k gold rotor and 40 hours of power reserve.
