German manufacturer Sinn is well-versed in making tool watches. These rugged wristwatches are here to do their task in the most effective way possible. What makes a better tool on your wrist than a dive watch? Sinn put a twist on their hot dive watch, the U50, and created the T50. The “U” in U50 stands for U-Boot-Stahl suggesting that the watches are made from the same steel as German submarines. In keeping with this theme, the “T” in the new model’s name stands for titanium. Most members of the new collection are already made of this lightweight, robust material, however an equally tough limited edition with a Goldbronze case also hit the shelves.

Bronze has been making a comeback in watchmaking lately. Since this material certainly has its place in the world of diving, it was only logical to use it for diving watches as well. Also, it is a fan favourite for many, because of the countless ways to add patina to these cases. Whether you bury it in a pot of earth or bathe it in vinegar, you get a unique timepiece. Sinn’s bronze alloy brings the brand’s durable image to bronze case watches. Goldbronze 125 is an exceptionally pure bronze alloy that contains one-eighth gold. This bit of gold adds an interesting lustre to the otherwise matte surface. In addition, this all-new alloy ages more slowly than regular bronze. One can easily get rid of the patina with the help of the included cloth. As with any other self-respecting tool watch, the T50’s case is bead-blasted throughout. The certified water resistance of 500 metres seems impressive given the wearable 41 millimetres diameter and slim 12.3 millimetre thickness. The 4 o’clock crown position also ensures comfortable wear, while the “press first, then turn” bezel prevents any mishaps.

Its dial is quite ironic. The dependable German manufacture is known for some of the most robust watches on the market, their TEGIMENT coating making their watches near-impervious to scratching. But, for special pieces, Sinn will break out their decorative “grinding dial” that is intentionally scratched for a handsome and unique aesthetic. No two dials are the same, each and every one of the 300 limited editions has a one-off pattern on its dial. It still manages to provide outstanding readability with the huge arrow hands and blocky, printed markers, all coated with different colors of luminescent paint for those night missions. The special Ar-Dehumidifying Technology ensures that the thick sapphire crystal doesn’t get foggy even in extremely low temperatures.

Not least of all, the Sinn T50 Goldbronze is equipped with a dependable Sellita SW300-1 movement hidden beneath a solid titanium caseback. This workhorse has 42 hours of autonomy and runs at 4 Hz.
