  • The Adventure, Heritage and Modern models have their own distinct dial expressions

Most watch collectors are familiar with the name George Bamford and the Bamford Watch Department due to their pioneering efforts in watch customisation. But, these days, while Bamford continues to create collaborations with various brands and serves as the official customiser for LVMH watches, the Bamford Watch Department also creates watches under their own name. For example, we have previously covered the colourful Mayfair lineup and indeed our first-ever Time+Tide limited edition was a Bamford GMT. This week, however, a new lineup has emerged: the Bamford B80.

Bamford B80

Seven configurations are available within the Bamford B80 lineup, all of which find themselves in a robust and lightweight 100 metre water-resistant titanium case that’s 39mm in diameter and a sporty-slender 10.5mm thick. True to a watch built to be a daily wearer ready for adventure, Bamford have elected to give the case a more matte and blasted finish that will wear its scratches better over time than the more common brushed/polished mixed finish.

Bamford B80

Within the Bamford B80 collection there are three segments: Adventure, Heritage and Modern. These segments distinguish themselves from one another with different dial layouts, finishes and colours. There are three colour configurations in the Adventure segment, with gradient orange, green, and brown dials that blacken as you reach the hashed outer minutes track. The dateless dials are very clean and legible, three-handed at its centre with broad boxed luminous hour indices. The central hours and minutes hands have a distinguished look from the Heritage and Modern segments within the collection due to blackened stripes that run down the length of the hand and intriguingly break up the surface in a manner that will create three luminous lines per hand when in darkness. At their tips, a home-plate shape tip adds further flair – their points easy to align with each minute hash or hour indices.

The Heritage segment, available in blue or black, forgoes the smoky aesthetic seen in the Adventure line and instead introduces a grained or pebbled texture to the dial. With both dials, you also have the inclusion of 3′, 6′, and 9′ applied Arabic numerals that give it an Explorer sensibility. There is also a pivot to rectangular baton hands in favour of the home plate-tipped hands seen on the Adventure models. The blue dial includes accents of yellow, found on the hashed lines connecting to each hour numeral or index and the central arrow-tipped running seconds hand. On the black dial, you will find red accents injected in the same format.

The last duo of Modern watches have matte black dials that either leverage a full set of yellow Arabic numerals or aqua-coloured Arabic numerals. The hands shape is the same as the Heritage models, but the line splitting the hours and minutes hand in half tonally matches the color of the numeral filling. The black/yellow model incorporates a Bamford blue arrow-tipped central seconds hand and Bamford blue hour-hashes that accompany the Arabic numerals (with the remaining hashes executed in red). For the black/aqua model, the aesthetic is more uniform with all accents executed in the aqua colour.

The seven Bamford B80 configurations

Each Bamford B80 watch is outfitted on a leather strap with various upper materials such as textile. The through line is that each strap utilises stitching that will match the accents found on the dial, and each strap is secured to the wrist via tang pin/buckle closure.

Inside you have the tried and true Sellita SW 300-1 automatic calibre that allows the watch to have its slender profile, as well as boast a well-performing movement with 56 hours of power reserve at a lower price point.
