It may have taken Casio several years to catch up to the modding community, but if you want an authentic metal-cased CasiOak experience then the new Full-Metal G-SHOCK CasiOak in a yellow-gold hue is going to give you all of the digital bling you could ever dream of. The release of the GM-B2100GD-9A comes after the CasiOak’s adaptation to Full-Metal G-SHOCK in stainless-steel and rose-gold finishes, and continues to offer an octagonal case design that isn’t just a Royal Oak copy.

The GA-2100 “CasiOak” was a game changer in 2019, taking inspiration from what’s probably the most famous non-diving sports watch to form an octagonal bezel into a retro-futuristic dream. Merging that 1970s luxury style with the 1980s G-SHOCK ethos created an ana-digi hybrid watch with plenty of bulk and comfort. In the Full-Metal case of stainless steel, especially gold-toned steel, the architecture looks even bolder. A softened octagon is resolute with circular brushing, making it slightly easier to see the engraved markings on the bezel so you can’t forget what the four pushers do. The rest of the case slopes down and away gracefully with a high polish, and the grips on each corner give a tactile functionality as well as a more aggressive look.

The diameter of the watch is 44.4mm across, with a lug-to-lug of approximately 49.8mm. The integrated nature of the bracelet would lead you to believe it might wear larger than those numbers suggest, but the lugs angle downward steeply to help fit the case to a smaller-than-average wrist just as well as a larger one. The thickness is also only 12.8mm, making it a fairly unobtrusive wear. Thanks to the lightweight digital module, the mass of stainless steel used in the case and the solid steel bracelet adds up to a robust 165 grams, give or take some extra links. The yellow gold is achieved via ion plating, which grants a gleaming finish that polishes up extremely well, and aids in scratch resistance.

As you would expect from a Casio G-SHOCK, it’s water resistant to at least 200m (although pressure tests on YouTube have proven they can handle much more) and it’s about as indestructible as any watch can be. The digital part of the display has a tonne of functionality along with the hand shift features and operation indicator at 9 o’clock. Some of these include, five daily alarms, a full automatic calendar, 1/100 second chronograph with split time, and up to 38 time zones with city name display. All of this can be adjusted in an app too, thanks to the Bluetooth connectivity and solar charging to top it all off.
