TAG Heuer brings the lights of the Las Vegas Grand Prix to your wrist with latest Monaco limited edition
Andrew O'Connor- TAG Heuer releases a new limited-edition Monaco to mark the 2025 Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
- Highlights include a DLC-coated grade 2 titanium case, a skeletonised dial with a gradient blue to violet finish, and tons of multi-colored lume.
- Limited to 600 pieces, this new Monaco will be available ahead of the Las Vegas race weekend and will retail for CHF 11,000.
TAG Heuer is really making the most of 2025. Between its return as the official timekeeping partner for Formula 1, introducing innovative carbon hairsprings, new Connected models, and the stunning Carrera Astronomer (among other releases), the brand is having a hell of a year and is not taking its proverbial foot off the gas as we close in on the end of 2025. TAG Heuer’s latest release pays another tribute to nocturnal driving, leaving the more gentlemanly driver aesthetic behind as seen with releases like the Monaco Chronograph “Night Driver,” and leaning into the full glitz and glamour of a Formula 1 race during the witching hours.
Released in conjunction with the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, this latest Monaco takes the modern skeletonised and titanium-cased Monaco as the starting point, and adds a heavy dose of colour and lume. The skeletonised dial features bridges that are gradient colored from deep blue to violet, meant to recall the transition from twilight to the darkness of night on a Grand Prix circuit. The glow of the city and track lights are represented with the generous amounts of lume, with the bridges in the centre of the dial inlaid with blue lume; the hour indices, seconds hand, and chronograph hands featuring light blue lume; and the minute track, hours and minutes hands and date are done in green lume.
This light show is achieved with Super-LumiNova, and is done so strategically so all of the functions of the watch can be easily read at night. The sapphire in the display caseback is also finished with an iridescent metallization, mirroring the gradient blue to violet seen on the dial while still offering a clear view of the movement.
All this iridescent glow is packed into a 39mm-wide, 14mm-thick sandblasted grade 2 titanium case that is DLC-coated and water-resistant to 100 meters. Inside is the TH20-00, the brand’s column-wheel, vertical clutch automatic 12-hour chronograph movement that operates at 28,800 BPH, has 33 jewels, bi-directional winding, and an impressive 80 hours of power reserve.
The front crystal is the boxed and faceted sapphire crystal as seen on other modern Monaco models, while the 22mm black rubber and black calfskin embossed strap has purple contrasting stitching to match the dial, and is secured to the wrist with a DLC-coated grade 2 titanium folding clasp.
Closing thoughts
It is no secret that the Monaco is an important model for TAG Heuer, in addition to being an avid collector’s favourite. With the model’s place in pop culture cemented by Steve McQueen and the 1971 film Le Mans, it is one of the many ways TAG Heuer, the Monaco, and racing have been intertwined. Even previous versions of the modern skeletonised Monaco have been seen on the wrist of reigning Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen, seemingly showing that these models have staying power within the modern collection.
This latest limited edition manages to keep things fresh and novel without losing the key defining attributes of the Monaco. With reference to night-time Formula 1 races (and especially the neon-soaked freneticism of F1’s new race in Sin City), this latest Monaco represents in part where the brand is today.
