Is the TAG Heuer Carrera Date Twin-Time the best green dial of Watches & Wonders 2025?

  • TAG Heuer gave the Carrera Date Twin-Time a big redesign, injecting it with a tonne more racing spirit.
  • The teal dial is an incredible shade, punctuated by strong red accents and a remarkably unsubtle GMT hand.
  • It’s powered by the TH31-03, made by Sellita’s AMT and boasting 80 hours of power.

If TAG Heuer had been waiting for a chance to reposition itself, becoming the official timekeeper of Formula 1 was the perfect opportunity. Since the announcement, its releases have been especially racy, and the old Carrera models have been long overdue an update. Although their classic looks were easy on the eyes, audiences are expecting a little more dazzle these days. The new TAG Heuer Carrera Date Twin-Time is a complete departure from that minimalist aesthetic, leaning into high-tech energy while retaining some old world charm, and being part of the brand’s slew of W&W 2025 releases.

Getting right into the good stuff, the dial of the TAG Heuer Carrera Date Twin-Time is just spectacular. The dark teal colour of with its fine sunburst finish combines the best of petrol and British racing green hues, vividly flashing between highlights and shadows like a gorgeous cut of silk satin. Green may now be almost as common as blue or black in the watch world, but this is a particularly exemplary shade. The applied Arabic numerals catch the light brazenly, and the typeface is quite reminiscent of a speedometer. The cutout at 6 o’clock for the black date wheel is also pleasantly symmetrical, allowing the dial to feel balanced no matter where its four hands are pointing. Many GMT watches try to keep their fourth hand subtle, but the Twin-Time helps it stand out with an acute angle to contrast the hour and minute hands’ straight shapes, as well as a bright gash of red on the tip. The style is completed with a fairly unique minutes track, and a 24-hour chapter ring for keeping track of the second time zone.

There don’t seem to have been many changes to the case, which isn’t an issue at all. The 41mm diameter and 47.5mm lug-to-lug length should suit the average wrist perfectly without any overhang, but it keeps some of that jumbo sports watch energy. And in regards to it being a true sports watch, the screw-down crown locks in 100 metres of water resistance so it can indeed be worn while swimming. It’s supplied on an H-link stainless steel bracelet with quick-release spring bars, and polished centre links to bring back a little bit of refinement, as well as to match the polished edges of the bezel and lugs. For an undeniably sporty watch, it’s got a fair bit of flash to it.

The movement is the TH31-03 which has been used before by the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 GMT. It’s a pretty decent upgrade from the previous Calibre 7 which used a Sellita base movement, because it’s made exclusively for TAG Heuer by Sellita’s high-end manufacture, AMT. With it comes a generous 80-hour power reserve and a smooth 4Hz beat rate, and you can look at its côte de Genève finishing through the sapphire display caseback. Next to the engraved Carrera logo on that came caseback is a laurel wreath, tying into Formula 1 tradition of placing a wreath on the top three finishers.
