WHAT SORT OF JET FIGHTER PILOT WILL YOU BE?

“Maverick, you just did an incredibly brave thing. What you should have done was land your plane! You don’t own that plane, the taxpayers do! Son, your ego is writing checks your body can’t cash.”

Let’s be real. If the watch industry was Top Gun, Breitling would be Maverick: tough, boastful and brazen. But as of right now, they’re also brotherly, because they’re offering Breitling lovers the chance to share the cockpit of a really fast jet for a flight to remember. It’s a game of skill and requires that you post a short video showing “capturing the spirit of aviation”. If your imagination is writing checks your bank balance can’t cash, and if those daydreams are in the air up there, it’s time to get creative.

They’re offering to send one lucky fan on trip to Dijon, France to fly with the Breitling Jet Team (yes, they have their own jet team). The winner will also receive a tour of the high-tech, Breitling Chronometrie in La Chaux-de- Fonds. Now you better hurry up and head on over to their FB page, because the comp ends in a few days!

If you win this stellar prize however, you’re immediately presented with a problem. What does one wear on a continental jaunt of high end watch shenanigans/high flying jet action? Don’t worry, at Time+Tide we’ve got the game to match your watch to your outfit, and your outfit with the occasion. So we’ve consulted our our go-to online retailer, Mr Porter and put together a list of bomber jackets paired with timepieces that will handle anything that’s thrown at them. BYO Breitling.

Belstaff-Bomber-Jacket

THE TRADITIONAL BOMBER: This Belstaff Bomber is a modern interpretation of the WWII classic. It eschews classic Belstaff waxed cotton in favour of nylon. No matter what it’s made of it looks great. We think this modern interpretation of a vintage classic is well paired with Breitling’s Superocean Heritage Chronograph 44.

Marc-Jacobs-Bomber-Jacket

THE VINTAGE BOMBER: If 1940s warbirds are your thing, then you’ll look the part in this Leather and Shearling Bomber by Marc by Marc Jacobs.  Drawing strongly from the design of the military issued originals, wearing the original, classic Navitimer will complete the look.

Saint-Laurent-Bomber-Jacket

THE DAFT PUNK BOMBER: If you’re not sure whether your day will end up on a nightclub in a castle, or on a commercial space flight, this metallic masterpiece from Saint Laurent is the jacket to wear. And if you’re able to pull off wearing this jacket (without a Daft Punk helmet) we think you’d probably be able to wear the out of this world Breitling Cosmonaute (in gold, naturally).

Richard-James-Bomber-Jacket

THE DAPPER BOMBER: This English looking number from Richard James will cut a dapper swathe through more martial Bomber Jackets. Made from oh-so-proper Harris Tweed, we’d pair it with the refined Breitling Transocean Chronograph 38.

Alexander-McQueen-Bomber-Jacket

THE STEALTH BOMBER: Bomber jackets are a distinctive breed, and it can be hard to shake the associations of Tom Cruise et al when wearing one.  This unassuming number from Alexander McQueen subtly references the military origins of the jacket. Likewise, the Breitling Chronomat Airborne 41 references it’s military beginnings.
