A shaped dressy model hits Seiko’s lineup to start 2026 in the new Presage SPB537
Andrew O'Connor- Seiko continues to start its 2026 in strong fashion, releasing a new tonneau-shaped Presage model with an enamel dial.
- With an improved power reserve, new dial layout, and steel bracelet, there are both functional and aesthetic updates compared to the previous tonneau Presage models.
- Slated for a February 2026 release, the Seiko Presage SPB537 is priced at US$1,600.
Seiko isn’t wasting any time in 2026, already releasing a handful of limited editions to mark the brand’s 145th anniversary. With smaller watches and shaped dress watches becoming more of a thing, Seiko’s newest Presage SPB537 hits a number of trends that have become increasingly popular and brings the tonneau case shape back to the Presage lineup. Seiko didn’t just put a new dial in an old case, though, so how do these updates shape up?
The Seiko SPB537 does carry over the dimensions from the previous tonneau-shaped Presage models. Measuring 35.9mm wide x 46mm lug-to-lug with a thickness of 12.5mm, it makes for a wearable yet sizable timepiece, as tonneau and rectangular watches do wear larger than their dimensions may suggest. The stainless steel case is entirely polished, with a stepped bezel and slightly twisted lugs (a detail I’m always a sucker for). Inside is the automatic winding 6R5H calibre, which features hacking, hand-winding, a 24-hour display at 6 o’clock, 24 jewels, and a 72-hour power reserve, a marked upgrade over the 50-hour reserve of the 6R15 used in previous generations. The case back is secured with screws, features a display for the movement, and is water-resistant to 50 meters.
While there was an enamel dial in the previous generation of tonneau Presage models, the new SPB537 features a new dial layout. Gone is the date at 3 o’clock, making for a symmetrical dial that will make dress watch enthusiasts rejoice. The white enamel dial features printed Roman numerals for the indices, a printed railroad minute track, and blued feuille hands. At 6 o’clock, there is a 24-hour sub-dial – a complication of questionable utility that nevertheless provides a vintage subdial aesthetic. Covering the dial is a curved and shaped sapphire crystal (not Hardlex!) with an anti-reflective coating on the inside.
Another marked departure from previous versions is the addition of a stainless steel bracelet, which features a 5-link design and a push-button deployant clasp. The outer and centremost links are brushed, with the remaining two centre links featuring a polished finish, adding to the dressy look. Both the case and bracelet feature a super-hard coating, adding some further durability to this timepiece.
Closing thoughts
With the updated movement and bracelet, the Seiko Presage SPB537 makes for a dressy but versatile all-rounder. The addition of the extra-hard coating further increases the durability, limiting the number of scratches the watch will accumulate over time. The dial text towards the top of the dial borders on being too much for me, and the cut-off six o’clock Roman numeral seems unnecessary. I think it would be best if the numeral was omitted altogether – or if the 24-hour indicator was removed – making room for a fully printed Roman numeral six. Still, Seiko manages to provide an interesting value proposition with this SPB537, packaging a white enamel dial in a usable timepiece. It is a compelling offering for those looking to add some enamel charm to their watch collection.
