Sartory Billard’s SB04-E Exquisite Blue Guilloché limited edition brings icy blue hues that will stand up to Florida heat
Andrew O'Connor- Sartory Billard releases a new limited edition take on its SB04-E in partnership with Florida-based retailer Exquisite Timepieces.
- Boasting a multi-patterned guilloché dial with a gradient blue finish that transitions to stark white, this watch makes for a bold statement when paired with its white rubber strap
- Limited to 25 pieces and available exclusively at Exquisite Timepieces, the SB04-E Exquisite Blue Guilloché is priced at US$6,400.
Ordering a custom watch is likely on the bucket list of many watch collectors, with famous examples from big brands commanding epic results at auction, but they also often require large spends and an existing relationship to place your own custom order from a major brand. French brand Sartory Billard has made its name by democratising the process, with a focus on providing fully customizable dials, with some truly stunning options available that will ensure that customers have something you won’t see on someone else’s wrist. That being said, the myriad of options can be overwhelming, and some people may be more attracted to a set offering that captures what the brand is known for.
Enter Sartory Billard’s latest limited edition, produced in collaboration with Florida-based retailer Exquisite Timepieces. Built upon the SB04-E that was released earlier this year, this limited edition focuses on Sartory Billard’s in-house manufactured dials, and specifically the ability to achieve stunning multi-patterned guilloché dials.
Utilising CNC machines in Sartory Billard’s Saint-Croix workshop, this technology facilitates complex guilloché patterns, reimagining the heritage of guilloché dials. The colour gradient finish is completed in Geneva, and final watch assembly is done by Sartory Billard founder Armand Billard in France.
The outer portion of the SB04-E Exquisite Blue Guilloché’s dial features an engraved pattern designed to reflect light, and is finished with a blue gradient finish that transitions from a deep navy in the outermost portion to a pale sky blue towards the centre. The inner portion of the dial features a wave pattern that radiates outward from the central pinion, finished in a pristine white.
The chapter ring is made of sapphire, with the printed and applied indices applied to the chapter ring, leaving the guilloché dial undisturbed and making the indices appear as if they are floating above the dial. The even-numbered indices are diamond-cut and polished, while the odd-numbered indices and outer minute track are pad-printed. The hands are also diamond cut and finished by hand, and the hour and minute hands are filled with BGW9 Super-LumiNova.
The case measures 39.5mm, is made of stainless steel, and features a high-polished finish for the front of the case, and a brushed finish for the sides and back, with a polished chamfered edge front and back. The bezel is concave, which reflects light uniquely, and makes the 10.3mm thick case appear thinner than it is. The 46mm lug-to-lug measurement further assists in a compact wearing experience, making the SB04-E compatible with a large range of wrists. The dial is covered with a flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and the case back has a sapphire display back displaying the La Joux-Perret G101ET movement inside.
The La Joux-Perret G101ET operates at 4HZ, has a 68-hour power reserve, 24 jewels, measures 26mm in diameter by 4.45mm thick, and has a tungsten rotor with the Sartory Billard logo. The case back also features a prominent coin-edge finish surrounding the sapphire display, and is secured with Torx screws. The case is water resistant to 100 meters with a screw-down crown that features the Sartory Billard logo, and is also lumed.
The watch head alone may lean towards the dressy end of the spectrum, but both the white rubber strap and stainless steel bracelet that are included push the watch towards the sporty casual side of things.
Both the strap and the bracelet are curved to sit flush against the case, making for a seamless, integrated appearance. The white rubber strap comes with a Sartory Billard logo steel pin-buckle, and the H-link style bracelet features brushed outer links with polished centre links, and a butterfly deployant clasp. Both the strap and the bracelet have quick-release spring bars to allow for easy strap changes. The lug width is 20mm, but it does require curved spring bars if you’d like to swap out additional aftermarket straps.
Closing thoughts
As I already mentioned, being able to order a customised watch from Sartory Billard is the main appeal of the brand, but the myriad of dial materials, finishes, colours, and indices available can be overwhelming. Limited edition models, both from the brand and in partnership with others, serve as a great platform to display what is possible, and also allow customers a more immediate option should they not want to go through the process of configuring and waiting for a custom model. The end result is no less stunning, and remains on brand from what we have come to expect from Sartory Billard.
Given the time of year, the multiple guilloché patterns and stark whiteness evoke snowflakes and winter weather in time for the holidays. However, with Florida being in the southern United States, that region does not see much snow, so pairing it with the white rubber strap makes it equally summer-ready. This would be a fun statement watch, both on the slopes and on the beach.
