Watch brands often get it right, far more often than we give them credit for. If they did not, why would we have such an ever-growing pool of certified watch geeks and collectors? That being said, while the novelty of collaboration watches may be lost in the current saturation of collabs we now see, when done right, they can be amongst the most exciting releases of a season. Seiko, Wind Vintage, and Rowing Blazers are three powerhouses in their own right, each with a distinct, masterful lens in the space they occupy. The trio has already collaborated three times to much fanfare, and thankfully, particularly for those who have previously missed out, the collaboration is not ending in a trilogy. After three years of annual collaborations, followed by a three-year hiatus, we now have a fourth collaboration, with the new Rowing Blazers x Wind Vintage x Seiko 5 Sports SRPM19 & SRPM21.

“Working with Seiko is a dream come true,” said Eric Wind of Wind Vintage. “Growing up, my dad’s daily driver watches were Seiko watches, and the first vintage watch I ever purchased was a vintage Seiko 5 Sports Rally Diver from 1969. The Rally Diver from our first Rowing Blazers x Seiko collaboration in 2021 was a tribute to my original Rally Diver and remains one of the most desirable Seiko 5 Sports watches ever made. It is an honour to design and release the next chapter of this iconic collaboration.”

The first collaboration debuted in 2021 with three configurations in 42.5mm cases. The succeeding capsule collections that followed in 2022 and 2023, marking the second and third collaborations, featured Seiko 5 Sports watches in trimmed-down 40mm cases. With the new SRPM19 & SRPM21, we see a simultaneous return to the roots of the collaboration with one model in a larger size and, to satiate the appetite for smaller watches, the first-ever 38mm entry into the Rowing Blazers x Wind Vintage x Seiko 5 Sports saga.

“We feel incredibly privileged to have worked with Seiko on a fourth collaboration,” said Rowing Blazers’ Senior Collaborations Manager Tommy Cissel. “To be able to reimagine our original ‘Rally Diver’ in two new sizes and colours is a great way to continue to honour the heritage of both brands. Watches are such an important part of our brand, and we are incredibly excited to continue our partnership with Seiko.”

Both watches are 100 metres water-resistant, with a Rowing Blazers-monogrammed crown at the 4 o’clock position, but the SRPM21 with a green dial is found in a 38mm stainless steel case while the blue-dialled SRPM21 returns close to the original 42.5mm size with an even 42mm stainless steel case.

The pair both utilise the rally-style timing bezel that kickstarted the original collaboration, but debuted in new blue and green shades for the first time. Both the blue and green dials are executed with a matte finish and have hands and applied indices tastefully filled with an aged colour of LumiBrite that evokes the soft, light “sage” patina many collectors find desirable when hunting for examples of vintage pieces – not a surprising move considering Eric Wind’s involvement in the project. You also have a rally-themed central seconds hand to tie the whole rally-themed aesthetic together.

Both the Rowing Blazers x Wind Vintage x Seiko 5 Sports SRPM19 and SRPM21 are sold with bundled strap options. The first is a brushed stainless steel three-link bracelet, and the second, for those who want to lean further into colour, is a nylon strap – cheekily provided in the opposing colour (blue for the green-dialled SRPM21 and green for the blue-dialled SRPM19).

Both references exhibit the in-house automatic Seiko 4R36 movement that drives them, ticking away beneath the Rowing Blazers faucet “Bath Club” motif and ‘Wind Vintage’ text etched into the crystal. The 41-hour calibre notably provides not only the hours, minutes, and seconds display on the dial, but also the day and date indications at the 3 o’clock position of the dial – a complication you do not see all that often in watches under US$1,000 (at least outside of the Seiko catalogue).

At US$495, with two sizes, each utilising a fan-favourite colourway, and a larger run of 2,500 pieces per reference, this collaboration is sure to make a lot of watch fans happy. In or outside of the scope of collaboration, the Seiko 5 Sports range is a collector-certified recommendation to anyone looking to get a value-driven mechanical watch offering. And in its remix by Rowing Blazers and Wind Vintage, the aesthetic is certainly eye-catching.
