The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor is a masterclass in platinum

  • The newest Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor goes for a solid platinum case.
  • If the case wasn’t enough platinum, the dial is also made from sandblasted platinum.
  • The in-house calibre PF703 with a micro-rotor allows the whole watch to be just 7.8mm thick.

Since Parmigiani Fleurier’s change of ownership and introduction of the Tonda PF range in 2021, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor has been a distilled representation of the brand’s DNA. It began with a subtle flex in stainless steel and a platinum bezel, then evolved into a soft rose gold edition, but now it embraces the power of platinum’s luxurious heft in a “stealth wealth” package.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor silver dial

Although some people make the argument that platinum can too easily be confused for white gold or even steel to be worth the investment, that obsession with perception goes against everything that Parmigiani Fleurier stands for. Their levels of finishing and attention to detail is exclusively for the enjoyment of the owner, and whoever wears this on their wrist will certainly be able to tell the difference. Aside from the white lustre of the material, 950 platinum is approximately one third heavier than 18k gold, which will give a noticeable and reassuring heft on-wrist. The 40mm case is a wonderful frame, with a flashy knurled bezel that adds some sparkle into the light dynamics. The lug-to-lug distance of 45.6mm is also quite wearable with the wide integrated bracelet, making it an appealing gender-neutral model.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor movement

The new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor definitely leans into the white metal theme, with a sandblasted platinum plate forming the dial’s base and a matching silver date wheel at 6 o’clock. The small applied hour markers, PF logo, and skeletonised delta hands make sure there’s as much of that dial on offer, blending the spectrum of greys and finishes across the entire watch. Of course the Tonda PF Micro-Rotor’s expertise isn’t just surface level, with an impressive in-house movement visible from a sapphire display caseback. The calibre PF703 bears the titular micro-rotor with a gorgeous barleycorn guilloché pattern, and offers a 48 hour power reserve with a 3Hz beat rate.
