If you’re lucky enough to own a Panerai, or have more than a passing knowledge of what the brand is about, you’ll understand that watch straps form an important part of the heart, soul and identity of the brand.

Head on over to any Paneristi site and you’ll see people venerating names like Dirk, Wotan and Gunny and using confusing nomenclature like ‘24/24’, ‘Pre-V’ in combination with a small zoo’s worth of common and exotic leather.

Heck, long time Time+Tide supporter @paneraicentral (remember when we spoke to him) started their site as a place to discuss Panerai straps. The straps, not even the watches.

So it makes sense that the Officine Panerai get behind their customers love of all things leather (and rubber, and nylon, and distressed canvas) and offer some of their own strap options, for a reasonable market price, of course.

Panerai’s latest collection of 11 brightly coloured strap is summer ready (or down here we can use them to brighten up a dark winters day), Panerai says the bright hues of these new straps harmonize successfully with the simplicity and minimalism of the watches. The straps are Louisiana alligator, using only leather with characteristic large, rectangular scales, and all straps are compliant with CITES conventions preventing trade in endangered animal products.

These new straps are aimed both at men and women, as guys who wear such bold watches tend not to be afraid of a bit of colour, and women look great with oversize watches.
