Omega launches two new greyscale Seamaster 300M models
Russell Sheldrake- Omega has released two new Seamaster Diver 300Ms, one of which was teased on Daniel Craig’s wrist during the Summer Olympics.
- One has a black wave dial, while the other is a grey, vertically brushed dial.
- Both do away with the ceramic bezel, opting for black aluminium and grey titanium.
Many of us who follow the Omega news cycle have gotten used to the brand’s current tactic of giving unreleased watches to Daniel Craig to wear on a red carpet, or to a sporting event with paparazzi present. While eagle-eyed watch spotters on Instagram may get to guessing what it is first, us press will often now get a press release saying that the former 007 can be seen wearing an “unreleased model”. Well, now we finally have an answer as to what he was spotted wearing while at the Olympic games in Paris this summer. It’s a black wave dial Omega Seamaster Diver 300M, and Omega has decided to throw in another new model for good measure with it.

The new watches are both no-date Seamaster 300Ms that also opt for non-ceramic bezels. We have a black wave dial with a black aluminium bezel and a grey, vertically brushed dial with a grey titanium bezel. Both of these watches come on either a metal mesh bracelet or the classic Seamaster rubber strap.
They come equipped with the domed sapphire crystal that gave the No Time To Die edition that brilliant vintage feel. And I’m sure collectors are going to appreciate the callbacks to the popular 60 years of Bond watch, of which these two are near identical bar the dial and bezel changes. So, we have 42mm cases, scalloped bezels, and a clean dial without a date window, allowing for all of the lume-filled hour markers to remain uninterrupted, and the helium escape valve up at 10 o’clock.
While the black dial will no doubt be popular, I am really interested to see how this new brushed grey dial looks in the light. While the bezel insert has been crafted from titanium with raised markers instead of the lume found on the black version, the dial itself is simply PVD steel, with a rather lustful-looking vertical brushing applied to it that reminds me of the Seamaster 120s from the 1970s, with dial textures that were far more subtle than the laser-engraved waves we are used to now.
While both of these watches are new, they have a level of familiarity to them that can make them feel as though they have been a part of the Omega catalogue for years. This is especially the case with the black dial given just how similar it is to the Seamaster Diver 300M with a date at 6. While many will form this into a critique of the brand, it can also be seen as them staying within their design codes, and not using every release to test new styles and markets, but just giving us more of what we already want.
Of course, both run on the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806 visible through the sapphire caseback, with its free-sprung silicon balance giving it a resistance to magnetic fields of up to 15,00 gauss. But all of these things are too be expected when it comes to Omega’s Seamasters at this point. Now all we have to wait for is the official launch of the latest unreleased watch spotted on Daniel Craig’s wrist, which appeared to be a version of this watch but in rose gold.
