Omega dominate 2023 Golden Globes’ red carpet. Rolex, Cartier, TAG, Vacheron, Bulgari also make appearances
Zach Blass- Omega dominated the 2023 Golden Globes red carpet
- Their range of styles and dial colours make their watches very easy to style
- Rolex, Cartier, TAG Heuer, and more were also spotted – but not nearly as many as Omega
While high-brow enthusiasts may find themselves above the superficiality of watchspotting, it is hard to ignore its impact. I will not pretend all of these watches have ended up organically on the wrists of attending celebs – we know most red-carpet wardrobes are curated by professional stylists like Ilaria Urbinati who facilitate these wrist cameos. So it is fair to assume Omega has strategically worked (or invested) to make these horological red-carpet appearances happen, and considering their innovative thinking in regard to pop cultural positioning it does not really come as a big surprise. Ultimately, what Omega’s dominance of the 2023 Golden Globes red carpet reveals is just how diverse the scope of their offerings are – both in style and colour. With this in mind, let’s quickly run through the various Omega sightings as well as a few other brands who were spotted as well.
Eddie Redmayne – Omega De Ville Trésor Co-Axial Master Chronometer Power Reserve 40mm
To find actor Eddie Redmayne wearing anything other than Omega would be as much of a shock as when we first started spotting Chris Hemsworth sporting watches outside the TAG Heuer stable. Redmayne is a known Omega ambassador, and with the full catalogue at his disposal he was seen wearing a relatively obscure Omega De Ville Trésor Co-Axial Master Chronometer Power Reserve 40mm on his wrist. The rose-gold case offers a nice pop of colour against his darker wardrobe, and, while 40mm, it has a compact lug-to-lug that results in a modern-meets-vintage fit befitting of formalwear.
Andrew Garfield – Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 38mm Saffron
The Amazing Spider-Man and The Social Network actor Andrew Garfield had what appears to be an outfit repeat for the 2023 Golden Globes red carpet, leveraging a nearly identical wardrobe and watch pairing he wore on Jimmy Kimmel Live in March of last year shortly after the Aqua Terra 38mm made its colourful debut.
While I would never begrudge someone for wearing a wardrobe more than once – not everyone can be (nor should be) like Justin Bieber who allegedly wears his Calvin Klein underwear once and then throws them in the bin. But, in Hollywood, repeat wears are a bit of a fashion faux-pas. That being said, it is such a perfect combo I can hardly fault him. This time around, Garfield opted for a darker shirt and swapped out the bracelet for a leather strap.
Barry Keoghan – Omega Speedmaster ’57 40.5mm Blue Dial
Tonal matches between watch dial and jacket were a recurring theme throughout the evening, Irish actor Barry Keoghan pairing a blue Omega Speedmaster ’57 40.5mm with a full sky-blue wardrobe a tad brighter than the blue sunburst dial of the ’57.
Diego Calva – Omega Speedmaster Professional 3861 Moonshine Gold / Green Dial
Babylon actor Diego Calva followed suit, matching his green jacket, vest, and pants with the fan-favourite Moonshine gold Speedmaster Professional with a green dial (notably spotted on the wrist of Ryan Reynolds at last year’s Met Gala). It is also worth noting Calva sported the watch on the factory green leather strap, rather than the gold bracelet, which I personally think was a wise choice considering the rest of his outfit.
Danny Ramirez – Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 41mm Blue Dial
Top Gun: Maverick actor Danny Ramirez left his IWC in the cockpit, instead channelling his inner James Bond with an Aqua Terra 41mm and its can’t go wrong blue dial. Personally, I think this watch is the primary head-to-head rival of the Rolex Datejust 41. Regardless of which one you’d opt for, it is safe to say this Aqua Terra looked great on Ramirez’s wrist.
Cody Ko – Omega Speedmaster Professional 3861
When in doubt, go with the icon. Canadian YouTuber Cody Ko stepped onto the red carpet with the most modern take on the Moonwatch. Its refined dial and bracelet give this sporty timepiece just enough formal flair that it does not feel super forced with his tuxedo.
Paul Dano – Omega De Ville Prestige Co-Axial Master Chronometer Power Reserve 41mm
The Batman’s latest Riddler and star of The Fablemans, Paul Dano, took a page out of Eddie Redmayne’s book, looking to the De Ville collection for his choice of watch. As a Prestige, rather than a Trésor, you could say Dano’s watch has more of a classic case shape. It also is definitely more monochromatic, largely grey in nature aside from the pop of Sedna gold seen on the hands and indices. I would say it definitely matches Dano’s quiet but deadly talented personality.
Ke Huy Quan – Omega De Ville Prestige Co-Axial Master Chronometer 34mm
Lastly, the De Ville Prestige also made an appearance on the wrist of actor Ke Huy Quan, best known for his childhood roles in The Goonies and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. This past year, Quan also made a strong impression in the critically acclaimed Everywhere Everything All at Once – taking home the Best Supporting Actor in a Musical or Comedy prize. Quan was seen wearing a 34mm De Ville Prestige, proving that – like the actor himself – small can be mighty.
While not out in as great a number, other brands were spotted on the 2023 Golden Globes red carpet as well.
Mario Lopez – Rolex GMT Master II “Batgirl”
Saved by the Bell actor Mario Lopez, who comes from the same anti-aging stock as Paul Rudd and Rob Lowe, was seen wearing the latest generation Rolex GMT Master II 126710BLNR on a jubilee bracelet. Personally I am opposed to the “Batgirl” nickname as I do not feel a jubilee bracelet makes a watch any more masculine or feminine. It is simply a “Batman” on a jubilee in my eyes.
Sebastian Stan – Tag Heuer Carrera Date
Pam & Tommy actor Sebastian Stan, better known for his work in the Marvel cinematic universe as Captain America’s best friend Bucky Barnes a.k.a The Winter Soldier, was seen wearing a TAG Heuer Carrera Date – the very same watch Ryan Gosling wore in Netflix’s The Gray Man.
Jeremy Allen White – Vacheron Constantin Patrimony
Propelled off of his success of his role as “Lip” in Shameless, Jeremy Allen White started the next chapter of his TV career on the critical acclaimed FX on Hulu series The Bear. His portrayal of an acclaimed chef returning home to run his family’s sandwich shop earned him a Golden Globe award, while the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony on his wrist won him lip-smacking approval from the Time+Tide team.
Jay Ellis – Cartier Tank Américaine
Another Top Gun: Maverick star gone rogue away from IWC, Jay Ellis turned to Cartier to pair with his black tuxedo. Whether or not it is truly appropriate to wear a tux with a watch, a Cartier Tank Américaine (or a Cartier Tank of any kind really), is certainly a smart and safe way to break this so-called rule.
Quentin Tarantino – Bulgari Octo Finissimo Skeleton Power Reserve
While presenting the The Fablemans cast and crew with their Golden Globe award, acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino was caught wearing a ultra-thin Octo Finissimo Skeleton that slid out from his shirt cuff with ease during his time on the podium.
Now, we look forward to the upcoming Oscars. Will Omega once again dominate? Or will a new trend emerge. Signing off for now, but stay tuned.
