NSFW! Holiday Hentai from a historic Swiss brand? Merry Christmas, I guess
Borna BošnjakErotic watches have long been a controversial topic. Some praise the individuality, artistry and taboo nature of these pieces, impressed by the intricately painted scenes or complex automata depicting them. Others, however, denounce them completely for their tackiness despite the connection to the historical tradition of erotic art – something Luke Benedictus shared his thoughts on already. Today, we take a (thankfully) brief look at Perrelet’s latest timepiece – the Turbine Erotic. Brands like Ulysse Nardin, Blancpain and Richard Mille use hand-painted dials or unique erotic complications, and the Perrelet, well, has some Hentai on it. I’d love to hear anyone actually make a case for this one.
A bit of brand background
It seems like there’s a good chance you’ll be a revolutionary watchmaker should your name be Abraham-Louis. Named after Abraham-Louis Perrelet, notable for inventing a self-winding mechanism in 1777, while his grandson, Louis-Frédéric, made strides in producing marine-oriented pieces and split-seconds chronographs, winning a Lalande award in the process. The brand Perrelet re-appeared in the mid ’90s with the Double Rotor, which featured a dialside winding weight connected to the automatic winding system of the movement. They would go on to create the first Turbine in 2009 after being sold to the Festina group in 2004. Interestingly, the turbine design itself does not wind the movement, merely acting like a winding rotor.
NSFW warning ahead
So, here they are – in all their Hentai glory, I guess. I’ve certainly had trouble choosing between dial colours before, split between choosing blue or black, though I can’t ever say I’ve had to choose between a “from behind” and a self-pleasuring couple dial.
Perrelet’s signature however, comes in the form of the turbine-like oscillating rotor atop the dial, that the collection gets its name from. Since its introduction in 2009, the Turbine has seen various iterations. The intrigue is in the spinning of the blades, as the faster they spin, the more revealing the already revealing scene will become. This is not the first time Perrelet placed a saucy scene below a Turbine dial, with these two essentially a re-design of identical dials from a decade ago.
Due to the supposed success of previous models and as an answer to the rising demand from horny, cashed-up weebs, Perrelet is re-introducing it in a new stainless-steel Turbine EVO case, 44mm in diameter and with 50 metres of water resistance.
Movement-wise, Perrelet notes this to be an in-house P-331-MH movement, though a closer look will reveal Soprod markings and an architecture nearly identical to that of the Soprod A10. As both brands are owned by the Festina Group, this is an unsurprising move, as the A10 competes with class-leaders like ETA’s 2892. Either way, the movement beats at 28,800 vph, offers a 42-hour power reserve and is certified by COSC and Chronofiable, the latter being a COSC testing alternative by Laboratoire Dubuis.
If an obscured look at your dialside waifu isn’t quite enough, Perrelet also prints the scenes on the insides of the boxes, risking no shortage of obscenity, and making for the perfect holiday surprise. Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal.
