Meet the Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer, the most Nomos travel watch imaginable
Borna Bošnjak- Introducing a new, in-house movement, the Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer combines pared-back design with versatile sizing.
- At 40.5mm x 9.9mm, it’s impressively thin, with eight legible dials to choose from at launch.
- If you’re a fan of the six colourful ones though, act quick, as they’re limited to 175 pieces each, all priced at US$4,720.
Nomos has finally given us a look at what an up-to-date worldtimer for the brand looks like. Now, don’t get me wrong, the Zürich is a lovely watch, but it’s certainly beginning to show its age. The new Nomos Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer is here to change that. It brings in some of the funk the German brand has begun to integrate more freely over the last few years, while sacrificing none of the utility you’d expect from the Bauhaus ethos it’s imbued with.
The name of this new release hints at its looks – it’s essentially a Nomos Club Sport with the added functionality of a world time disc and home time sub-dial. Highlighted above the 12 o’clock index is your current location, selected by advancing the city ring with the 2 o’clock pusher, with a handy scale showing you how many hours to add or subtract for calculating international times. At 3 o’clock, Nomos squeezes in a home time sub-dial, though it’s really just a day/night indicator for the city you’ve currently selected.
And being a Nomos, colour is at the forefront of the Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer’s design. You can opt for a pretty subdued silver or blue sunburst (the two regular-production variants), or go the “proper” Nomos way and pick something from the six 175-piece, limited colourways. Now, not all of those are as vibrant as the yellow Dune or red Magma, but they’ve all got plenty of pastel contrast from the 24-hour sub-dial.
On the wrist is where I expect the Worldtimer to nestle in with no trouble. The 40.5mm case is on the larger side for Nomos, though the 9.9mm thickness will make it disappear. Now, you do always have to be careful of the Long Nomos Lug™, though it’s clear the brand has taken notice of their tendencies, as this piece comes in at a very manageable 48mm. And despite the additional pushers, you still have a screw-down crown (with a little red ring appearing once it’s unscrewed) securing 100 metres of water-resistance, making this a phenomenal daily.
Now, I already mentioned the Zürich Worldtimer in the introduction, and for those that remember the layout of that watch, you might see some similarities here. The 24-hour disc at 3, the small seconds at 6, all surrounded by the city ring? Casting a quick, comparative glance between the new DUW 3202 and the Zürich’s DUW 5201, and I can see some tiny similarities (they’re also the same diameter), though there’s no question the new calibre has been upgraded and modified significantly, least of all with a new balance bridge instead of a cock. The DUW 3202 is also nearly a millimetre slimmer, which is a significant, and welcome upgrade that was clearly translated into the case.
As for the other specifications, it’s equipped with Nomos’ Swing System escapement ticking at 4Hz (which is identical to a Swiss lever, only produced by Nomos), surrounded by a traditional Glashütte three-quarter plate beneath a bi-directional rotor topping up a 42-hour power reserve.
