Nomadic takes to the roads of Northern Ireland, celebrating the North West 200 with a limited edition Apex NW200 chronograph
Tom Austin- Belfast-based Nomadic has announced they are the Official Timing Partner of the historic Irish motorcycle road racing event, the North West 200, and has released a limited-edition watch to mark the occasion.
- Based on Nomadic’s Céad 126, the Apex NW200 will be limited to just 50 pieces and celebrates special benchmarks for the event, such as Glenn Irwin’s famous 126mph lap and the legendary Joey Dunlop’s 26 Isle of Man TT wins.
- The classically styled chronograph features a motorsport-inspired dial, a stainless steel case, and is powered by a Sellita SW500-M-a manually wound movement.
Chronographs and motorsport go hand in hand. Of course, these days, nobody really uses chronographs to time races, but the relationship spans decades. There are endless pieces out there that capture the spirit of racing, and if you need to celebrate something motorsport-related, it just cannot be anything but a chronograph. Nomadic are a Belfast-based brand that is more closely connected to racing than most, having spent a good while being the title sponsor of motorcycle racer, British Superbikes winner, and all-round two-wheeled maniac Glenn Irwin, who, incidentally, has won the North West 200 seven times. The North West 200 is a motorcycle road race held in May in Northern Ireland that runs across public roads between Portrush, Portstewart, and Coleraine, and since its beginnings in 1929, has become one of the fastest road races in the world. 2026 marks the year that Nomadic becomes the NW200’s Official Timing Partner, and so, to mark the occasion, they’ve released a special, limited edition watch.
The watch is based on Nomadic’s Céad 126, the brand’s debut triple register chronograph, takes the standard black dial variation, and adds some subtle, North West 200-inspired details. It’s a decently sized chronograph, at 40mm in diameter, 14.3mm thick, with a domed sapphire crystal and a lug-to-lug of 48mm. It’s not a small watch, by any stretch, but it’s not oversized, either. The 316L stainless steel case is neatly finished with brushed and polished facets, and a fixed, chamfered bezel frames everything, offset by the classic chronograph pushers and a generous crown, all of which deliver 100-metre water resistance.
At first glance, the dial appears simply black, but look a little closer, and you’ll notice the dial is centred around a faint black outline of the triangular, 8.9-mile-long North West 200 circuit, renowned for its 200+ mph straights. Nomadic’s signature yellow chronograph hand has been replaced by a bold red, echoing the rev counter of a race bike, and the 60-sec sub-dial at 9 o’clock gets a red racing stripe, connecting the watch to the speed and timing of racing. On the other side, just below the date, a NW200 logo sits proudly, linking the watch with the iconic Northern Irish event, and acts as a neat reminder that owners of this limited edition will be in good company, as the fastest riders from each category in qualifying will each receive a watch as a memento when the event takes place this week.
Flip the watch over, and you’ll find a huge exhibition caseback, displaying the Sellita SW500-M-a manually wound movement. The caseback is probably where the watch gained a couple of millimetres in thickness, because without a winding rotor, the movement comes in at just 7mm thick. Nevertheless, it has 21 jewels, beats at 28,800 Vph, and delivers a substantial 58 hours of power reserve. This cam-operated chronograph is a Swiss workhorse, and it looks pretty good through the exhibition caseback, predominantly due to the D4 grade of finishing, which not only gives it a decorated, blackened bridge up top, but also elevates the calibre with superior adjustment and enhanced refinements such as hacking seconds and a quick-set day/date complication, giving it some much-needed everyday wearability.
Finally, the watch comes complete on a tapered, cushioned black rally-style leather strap made by the Strap Tailor, which, in typical motorsport style, features perforations, just like the motorsport chronographs of old, plus a red leather keeper, again for a subtle, racing-inspired touch.
