With the northern hemisphere in the throws of fall, as Jimmy Fallon recently joked on The Tonight Show, we are sadly now past the “Hot Girl Summer” season and in the midst of “Sad Girl Autumn” with Adele and Taylor Swift recently dropping heart-wrenching singles. “Hot Girl Summer”, a phrase coined by rapper Megan Thee Stallion, has become quite the trend – so much so that fast-food chicken restaurant Popeye’s partnered with her to create a new “Hottie Sauce”. To promote this partnership, among other endeavors, Megan Thee Stallion dropped by Hot Ones. The popular YouTube based series from First We Feast revolves around celebrities being simultaneously interviewed in-depth while eating hot wings that get hotter and hotter each wing. Fortunately for Megan, she was able to remain cool thanks to her Houston, Texas upbringing and the iced-out Rolex Sky-Dweller on her wrist.

The Rolex Sky-Dweller, arguably Rolex’s most complicated modern watch, is by no means a dainty timepiece. In fact, it is one of the larger models in the catalogue clocking in at 42mm in diameter. The watch is known for being the new take on the ultimate travellers watch with two timezones as well as having an intriguing calendar complication that displays the date under a cyclops magnifier at 3′ along with the month via apertures framing the hour indices – or in the case of Megan’s discontinued variant of the ref. 326938 bold hour Arabics. The giveaway that it is, in fact, this reference is the dual-time ring rendered in white, something you would not find on other models such as a Datejust.

When you’re finished bemoaning the aftermarket customization of diamonds throughout the yellow gold case, bezel, clasp, and outer brushed links of the Oyster bracelet, one thing thing that is abundantly clear is that she can pull off the larger size. The 5’10” 26-year-old definitely has the wrist real estate for the watch, with visible clearance on each side of her wrist. So for those who cry that the Rolex Sky-Dweller is a “men’s watch”, well I am a man and I doubt my smaller wrist could pull it off as well as she does.

Unsurprisingly, considering the horological climate of the rap industry, Megan Thee Stallion is no stranger to aftermarket bussed-down watches. She has routinely been spotted wearing another incredibly hot and obtanium reference decked on in diamonds: the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Based on the fit of the Sky-Dweller she wore on Hot Ones, I think it is a safe bet she is wearing a customized Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding 41mm. The watch has been highly customized, with a custom diamond dial and hour indices you would not find on a standard production model. Again, while not my particular taste for my own wrist the aesthetic definitely matches her powerhouse persona and it is yet another “men’s watch” in a size she carries better than I ever would.
