Maurice Lacroix presents the new Pontos S Diver in proper Mediterranean fashion

  • Maurice Lacroix releases a new version of the Pontos S Diver after discontinuing the 2013 model
  • Three dial colourways available: Grained Black, Lacquered White & grained Deep Blue
  • This new version is thinner, smaller and more refined, making it more versatile than before

Maurice Lacroix just released their new Pontos S Diver in the best possible way for a dive watch. The Swiss brand in fact chose the beautiful city of Dubrovnik as the first stage to re-introduce the long-awaited diver, in a more elegant, refined case. No place could have been better for this specific timepiece than the elegant coastal town in Croatia that perfectly reflects the philosophy of the timepiece.

The watch itself was designed with the help of Lidija Lijic, Croatian friend of the brand and free diving world champion. She needed a watch able to withstand all the challenges that her activity requires, so special attention was given to the legibility and wearability of the piece. At the same time, it was also designed not to look out of place in an urban environment or professional situation.

The 42mm case well serves both functions, having a dial large enough to be seen without any problems, and, thanks to the curved lugs, also to be worn without distinction of gender or wrist size. Compared to the model introduced in 2013 we have a slightly smaller diameter of the case, as well as a thinner profile and better attention to detail, such as the tone-on-tone date wheel and dial proportions.

It is still a proper dive watch with an inner rotating bezel adjustable with the screwed-down crown at 2 o’clock, but the water resistance changed to 300m from the previous 600m, losing the now unnecessary helium escape valve. This new interpretation of the watch is offered in three different variants, with the first two being housed in a stainless-steel case and the third one in a bronze one.

The first dial presented is grained-black with an orange hour hand and minute markers, in order to ensure perfect legibility in any condition. The dark texture of the dial has almost a soft feel to it, and when it catches the light is reminiscent of sunsets seen on the Croatian sea opposite Dubrovnik, where the last sunbeams colour the sky orange as the water darkens to the colour of night.

The second regular production dial is lacquered white, with blue text and prints, looking almost as if they were floating on the watery surface of the dial. This gives an effect of tri-dimensional ink on top of the dial, adding further elegance to the timepiece as a whole.

The third one is the most luxurious colourway of the three, with the dark blue, grained dial that perfectly pairs with the dark warmth of the bronze case, the same tone as the applied indices and all the prints. This last classic colour combination is not only the most lavish, but it’s the only combination that is paired with a blue leather strap in addition to the blue rubber, while the two others are sold with an extra fabric strap. The leather used is Nubuck and it develops a patina in a similar way to the bronze case, making the watch turn to a unique piece after wearing it for some time.

All three versions of this watch are powered by the calibre ML115, a reliable, automatic movement with 26 jewels and a 38-hours power reserve at 28,000 vph, that enables hacking for more precise time setting and hand winding.

With this new release, Maurice Lacroix not only managed to bring a better product to its diving range, but also provides a solid platform for future releases using different tones and materials.
