Louis Horror and seconde/seconde/ reveal the spooky skeletons in their closets

Borna Bošnjak

Louis Erard is no stranger to collaboration, having released some of their most successful pieces in partnership with the likes of Massena LAB and legends like Alain Silberstein and Vianney Halter. Another on the long list of associates is Romaric André of seconde/seconde/, working together to produce a brilliant take on the brand’s regulator design, playing on the Louis Erard name. Ripe for Halloween 2022, the two rev up the spook factor, with the very scary Louis Horror x seconde/seconde/ La Petite Seconde.

Blood-curdling touches

As is custom with anything that Romaric André touches, clever understatement is key, save for maybe his less-than-subtle take on the Sequent Smart(ass). La Petite Seconde seemed like a great canvas for this, with austere dial features that yearned for a little bit of spice. And spice it got. Playing on the Louis Erard name once again, seconde/seconde/ replaces it with Louis Horror, with the latter executed in a lovely shade of blood-dripping red.

To make it that much more cutesy, the small seconds hand at 6 o’clock has also been modified, a seconde/seconde/ signature. Normally, the hand is a slender arrow matching the blue glaive hands for hours and minutes, but its now replaced by a spooky little 8-bit ghost.

Terrifyingly proportionate

The case is completely unchanged from other 39mm versions of Louis Erard’s La Petite Seconde, which means an aforementioned 39mm diameter, 46.48mm lug-to-lug and 12.25mm in height. These are ideal proportions for an everyday watch leaning towards the dressy style of the spectrum, though excessively bony wrists like the one above may struggle even with this size.

Fully polished and with a domed sapphire crystal, the Louis Horror is destined to pick up reflections. This will make for some very pleasing wrist-rolls, while legibility won’t suffer as much due to the double-sided AR coating on the crystal. The push-pull crown is emblazoned with Louis Erard’s signature fir-tree motif, granting the watch 50 metres of water resistance.

Tame display

While the front is looking to spook it up a bit, the transparent caseback reveals a pretty standard Sellita affair. The Louis Horror is powered by an élaboré-grade SW261-1 movement, with a custom semi-skeletonised rotor and a somewhat diminutive 38-hour power reserve.
