Let your watch turn to the dark side with the Kross Studio x Star Wars TIE Advanced x1 Watch Winder

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away… sorry, that’s the Star Wars nerd in me. If you search your feelings and feel the midichlorians around you, well, perhaps, you are looking for something Star Wars-related for your watch collection. Recently Star Wars and Kross Studio released a limited edition Death Star-inspired tourbillon watch, bundled with a lot of bonus goodies directly inspired from the film Rogue One. But to score the intriguing watch it required a large sum of money, an expectedly large sum considering the complication of its movement and case design, in-house manufacture, as well as the attention to detail of its packaging. Now Kross Studio has introduced a more approachable Star Wars-inspired horological treat, with their new Kross Studio TIE Advanced x1 Watch Winder.

The Kross Studio TIE Advanced x1 Watch Winder is directly inspired by the TIE Advanced x1 starfighter, piloted by Darth Vader himself in the film Star Wars: A New Hope. It is made of solid black anodized aluminum, which according to Kross Studio, is fully machined, hand-finished and assembled in-house. For those concerned about where it could potentially fit in your home, the sculpture measures 20cm long, 28cm wide, and 17cm high, and weighs a total of 4kg.

In terms of its functionality, you do not need to be one with the force to control its winding rotations. Its Bluetooth interface allows owners to dictate its functions, such as the number of turns and their direction, via a dedicated smartphone application, Kross Watch Winder, available on the App Store and Google Play. The winder is powered by 4AA batteries (not included – which I have to jestingly say, c’mon really… couldn’t splurge for the batteries) that will power the winder for two years before they need to be swapped out. To replace the batteries, the watch winder also comes with a Galactic Empire designed key that allows you to open the compartment.
