#Kixntix: Hit the trails with the new Breitling Endurance Pro Ironman

Thor Svaboe

I consider myself quite fit for my age with weekly gym and road bike sessions (well, when it’s sunny..), but feel fairly inadequate compared to our intrepid European Editor Mike Christensen. He’s one of those all-in impossibly fit dads, posting morning river swims of 20 miles and other feats of manhood I couldn’t possibly live up to. Maybe the new light and rugged Breitling Endurance Pro Ironman is just what I need to inspire me to hit the trails and lose that home office flab?

It sure looks like a pure flash of inspiration with its red dial, a delicate hint of fumè on the edges, and that no-excuse 44mm black case with red details. With its proprietary composite case of Breitlight, the bold presence is juxtaposed with a barely believable lightness that’s 3.3 times less than titanium and almost six times lighter than steel, so it’ll happily go with you on any run, swim of bike ride without weighing you down.

I must admit though, a full Ironman event would be a reach for most mere mortals. An Ironman triathlon, brings together three disciplines into one of the world’s most challenging single-day races, consisting of 2.4 miles (3.8 km) of swimming, 112 miles (180 km) of cycling, and 26.2 miles (42.2 km) of running.

Personally, I’m getting palpitations just trying to comprehend the scale of this insurmountable feat. But I bet  inspiration would come from strapping on that bright flash of red Breitling-branded rubber, knowing you have a leglible and accurate sports chronograph that’s driven by the rock solid Caliber 82, a COSC-certified SuperQuartz movement that’s 10 times more precise than most regular movements.Even then, I seriously doubt my normal trainers will be up to the job, so here’s a pair of aspirational footwear from Altra, the Olympus 4 Trail-Running shoe. At a decent $170 USD, the bright red Vibram soled Olympus 4 will surely make the rockiest, rootiest trails feel like easy work,.

The Olympus 4 Trail Running shoe is a dedicated tool to improve your running while standing up to the pressure of a tough event, with the brand’s signature Altra balanced cushioning and FootShape™ toe boxes that allow your toes to spread in order to encourage proper, low-impact form throughout your run.

The Vibram ‘Megagrip’ rubber outsoles do exactly what they say on the tin, so have a google and go try these on, as with proper running shoes, the “well, they pinch a bit” result from online buying an approximate size, can lead to discomfort and even injury when, and I do say WHEN, you enter that trail running event or your first Ironman competition. These  shoes are not meant for just sauntering down to the pub.
