Just One More Watch YouTuber Jody Musgrove to embark on ‘Shitbox Rally’ to raise money for the Cancer Council

Time+Tide

Just One More Watch YouTuber Jody Musgrove is about to embark on the journey of a lifetime, all in the name of cancer research.

Starting tomorrow, he and channel regular Mr X will set off on the ‘Shitbox Rally’ – a 3,400km, 7-day charity car rally from Newcastle to Townsville that will raise money for the Cancer Council.

“I lost my Granny to bowel cancer, and my Aunt died from breast cancer,” says Jody. “This is my way of trying to stop others losing loved ones to this horrible disease too.”

It’s not just the cancer research that’s drawn renowned budget-man Jody to the event though. He says the rally’s strict $1500 car limit was a big drawcard too.

“My subscribers know I love a bargain, so I was excited by the challenge of finding a decent car for such a low price.”

And after months of searching, (including purchasing a Ford Falcon that was so rusty it was refused registration), Jody says he and Mr X have found their perfect ‘Shitbox.’

“It’s a 1999 C180 Mercedes that we think suits our rally sponsors – tough like a G-Shock and a little bit posh like Fears.”

G-Shock Australia and Fears Watches of Bristol have both donated valuable watches which Jody and Mr X are auctioning off to the highest bidder.

“All the funds will go to the Cancer Council. There’s a G-Shock MR-G up for grabs, valued at $4000, and a custom-made Fears Archival 1930 which values at more than $6000.”

But Jody says the real generosity has come from his subscribers.

“We’ve raised $15K so far. $5K from our own pockets and $10K from subscribers.”

“I’m delighted but not surprised. The watch community is incredibly generous.”

Jody and Mr X’s car has been given a horological ‘glow up’.

Scottish-born Jody says he’s excited to see parts of Australia that most Aussies will never see.

“I’m also excited about meeting fellow idiots all trying to raise money for the same great cause… and hopefully getting a good night’s sleep because I’ll be leaving my 1-year-old at home with my wife, Amy.”

“Don’t think she’s excited about that though.”
