These are the watches the real Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan Belfort, actually wears
Zach BlassEver since Leonardo DiCaprio portrayed him in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan Belfort has become a popular antihero on the back of his notoriety and hard-living lifestyle. To give credit where it’s due, he’s the man you go to when you need to learn how to “sell me this pen” during a job interview. Belfort’s charisma and aggressive ambition led to his wealth and status in the 90’s and, years later, after serving 22 months (of a four-year sentence) in prison for money laundering and securities fraud, he has capitalised on the fame from his book and biopic.
In The Wolf of Wall Street, we saw DiCaprio rocking a solid gold TAG Heuer on a bracelet. The question is what does the actual man really wear today? With a large presence on social media platform Tik Tok, Belfort can be seen rotating between two LVMH luxury watches while he takes shots at other users with the Tik Tok video stitch feature.
Bulgari Octo Roma
At first I though this watch was the new Bulgari Octo Finnisimo S in Silver, but upon closer inspection I noticed all hour indexes were present on the dial with the off-centered sub seconds not in view. When you also zero in on the less squared case profile it becomes clear Belfort is wearing a Bulgari Octo Roma with a slate dial. The stainless-steel watch on a bracelet, is the more affordable cousin of the Octo Finissimo. Whether the 38mm Solotempo or the 41mm (which I believe is the size he is wearing), the time and date 50-metre water-resistant watch utilises the Bulgari caliber BVL191 with 42 hours of power reserve.
This is definitely a departure from what would be expected of him. You’d assume he would wear a precious metal Rolex or a holy trinity sports watch, but instead Belfort exhibits subtlety and taste with a reference well appreciated within the community.
Hublot Big Bang Chronograph
Another LVMH brand, Hublot, would seem more in line with the bold persona of Jordan Belfort. The watch pictured above is likely the Hublot Big Bang Evolution 301.SX.130.RX, a 44mm stainless steel chronograph powered by the HUB4100 calibre based upon the Valjoux 7753. Now 58, Belfort has managed to stay in decent shape and as a result the larger watch sits well on his sizable wrist.
With 100 metres of water resistance, the Hublot Big Bang Evolution 301.SX.130.RX is definitely a fitting reference for his yachting lifestyle – and considering he once sunk his boat in the Mediterranean, the robust chronograph is up to the task of both drunken partying and jumping into the water while abandoning ship.
Are there other watches in Belfort’s collection? Maybe. But it speaks volumes as to how much he loves his Bulgari and Hublot that you will pretty much only spot those two pieces in all of his videos. Belfort, it seems, is a wolf not in sheep’s clothing but those of a man who clearly appreciates a nice watch.
