Jason Statham sports his own IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Top Gun Ceretanium® in “Wrath of Man”

There is therefore a powerful effect when big-screen tough guys sport a nice watch as they kick ass, dodge bullets and save the world. With the James Bond franchise, the Broccoli family created paid partnerships with companies like Omega to be featured in Bond’s wardrobe. But in the new Guy Ritchie directed film, Wrath of Man, action superstar Jason Statham once again wears a watch from his own collection: an IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Top Gun Ceretanium®.
Statham has worn a variety of watch brands throughout his films, but one of the most recurring manufacturers on his wrist is IWC. In The Mechanic: Resurrection, for example, he wore an IWC Aquatimer Automatic 2000 IW358002, while in The Meg he opted for an IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Edition La Cumbre Volcano.
The really neat thing here is that Statham is not an official brand ambassador as IWC CEO Chris Grainger-Herr confirmed in an earlier T+T interview: “Jason Statham buys and owns all his IWCs himself.”
It’s therefore safe to assume the IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Top Gun Ceretanium® is yet another robust entry into the personal collection of Jason Statham. And the fact the watch is apparently his personal choice rather than the whim of the wardrobe department gives this celebrity endorsement a lot more credibility than most.
The IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Top Gun Ceretanium® definitely seems like a good fit for his character, at least based on its synopsis: “Mysterious and wild-eyed, a new security guard for a cash truck surprises his co-workers when he unleashes precision skills during a heist. The crew is left wondering who he is and where he came from. Soon, the marksman’s ultimate motive becomes clear as he takes dramatic and irrevocable steps to settle a score.” We rather suspect that lots of high-octane action and bone-crunching fights ensue. At any rate, the stealth black Certanium® case is highly robust and ready for battle, and its aesthetic caters to the all-black clad security wardrobe.
In terms of specifications, the watch is 44mm in diameter and 16.7mm thick. Should Statham’s character need to get into water, the IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Top Gun Ceretanium® is 60 metres water-resistant with a screw-down crown. The watch features a Double Chronograph with hours, minutes, seconds, and split-seconds hand for intermediate timing. The soft-iron inner case provides increased protection against magnetic fields. Underneath the convex sapphire crystal is a matte black dial with white Arabic hour numerals, markers, and outer minutes track. The chronograph registers are placed at 12′, 9′, and 6′ and have a concentric guilloche for added dial texture. At 3′ is a day date complication, with white on black discs peering out through the double apertures sandwiched in between the IWC Schaffhausen branding.
Inside the watch is the IWC manufacture automatic caliber 79420, with 44 hours of power reserve and a sporting beat rate of 28,800 vph. The movement, comprised of 345 Components and 29 Jewels, is decorated with Côtes de Genève and perlage even though you can not see the movement beneath the solid caseback.
The IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Top Gun Ceretanium® is outfitted on a black rubber strap with textile inlay (21mm in width for any strap-swapping enthusiasts who are wondering), which I really like because I think the rubber is more rugged and robust – definitely more water resistant. The textile and rubber combo has a military feel to it, and is likely another reason why the legendary screen hardman gravitated towards the watch for this film.
