The Reverso Minute Repeater showcases Jaeger LeCoultre’s Métiers Rares in the best light possible
Borna Bošnjak- Part of the Nonantieme special collector’s box, the Reverso Tribute Minute Repeater incorporates musical complication into the mix.
- With a front dial in resplendent flinqué enamel, the reverse side puts the Calibre 953 on full display with no dial and openworked components.
- The Reverso Tribute Minute Repeater is a limited edition of 30 pieces, priced at US$299,000.
While the focus has shifted back to the Reverso for Watches and Wonders 2025, Jaeger-LeCoultre is still bitterly holding on to the romantic idea of wonderful complication. Whereas last year’s Duomètre was all about precision and efficiency, 2025 is bringing us several complicated Reverso models, one of them being this – the Reverso Tribute Minute Repeater.
As is the case with most Reverso models, the front dial is entirely unassuming – except if you know what you’re looking at, that is. The pink gold indices and hands are placed atop a swirling guilloché pattern that’s covered in teal enamel in a technique usually referred to as flinqué enamelling. This is business-in-the-front in every way imaginable, telling you the hours and minutes, and no more.
And if you were hoping to find a smooth, polished pink gold surface ready for engraving on the back, I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint. I mean, did you forget the “party in the back” that must accompany the aforementioned? Here, Jaeger-LeCoultre cantilevers the ingot-like indices over openworked section of the Calibre 953, offering as good of a look into the movement as you could hope for. There are hints of blue here on the hammers, bridges, and minute track, but it’s really all about the movement.
Now, the Reverso has become somewhat of a dress watch icon over the years, but I suspect you’ll have a hard time getting this one to subtly fit with your black tie ensemble. The case measures in at 31mm across, 12.6mm in height, and a whopping 51.1mm lug-to-lug, and being all pink gold, I’m guessing it won’t be a featherlight on-wrist experience either. It does come on a black alligator strap with a brand-new, on-the-fly-adjustable folding clasp that counts 46 components all by itself, so you could give black tie a go.
All that bulk is for good reason, and that’s the brand new minute-repeating Calibre 953. It’s manually wound, with indications for the hours and minutes on both sides, but also incorporating Jaeger-LeCoultre’s chiming innovations such as the trébuchet hammers and crystal gongs, with a silence interval regulator. Some basic specs include a 48-hour power reserve, a 4Hz beat rate, 72 jewels, and 462 total components.
