The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface gold mesh is dripping with delectable Art Deco opulence

We’re barely four months into the new year, and I feel like we already have a contender for 2025’s top dog. Yes, this article is starting off sounding eerily similar to the one I wrote about the new steel 222, but the feeling I got in my gut seeing Jaeger-LeCoultre’s golden mesh-outfitted Reverso Tribute Monoface was certainly comparable. From the buckle to the applied logo, this Reverso is all pink gold everything, while managing a slim, Tribute Monoface figure that makes it all the more appealing. It’s the icon in the kind of vesture you’ve never seen before. Scary thing is, it’s closely matched by a few other new Reversos for W&W 2025…
Contrasting the all-polished surfaces of the case, the dial is a grained pink gold tone. Anyone else getting a salmony hint? In any case, if there wasn’t enough shiny pink gold for you on the dial blank itself, Jaeger-LeCoultre takes care of that with faceted dauphine hands and sharp indices touching the classic, Art Deco railroad minutes track. My favourite small detail? Rather than cut off either the sub-dial or the minute track, the latter gently dips towards the “Swiss Made” text at the very bottom of the dial, retaining symmetry and just being a great bit of design.
There is a single aspect of this watch that I would change, and that’s the case size. The new Tribute Monoface mid-size completely captured my vintage-loving heart with its 24.4mm x 40.1mm, whereas this novelty clocks in at 27.4mm across and 45.6mm lug-to-lug. Admittedly, this is by no means overbearing, even on my smaller-than-average, 6.6in wrist, and more case also means more gold, so expect this one to weight your arm down significantly.
Though it would still be a lovely watch on one of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Fagliano straps, it’s completely transformed on this Milanese mesh bracelet that matches the case. It sits closely to the case for an almost seamless finish, and you won’t have to worry about cutting it to size and potentially introducing a wearability problem thanks to an adjustable, sliding clasp. That said though, the additional overlap created by the excess strap could feel a little bulky, so I’d be interested to see the brand offering different strap sizes – something like a small, medium or large would do.
Finally, let’s quickly touch on the movement, which despite being made by one of the most well-respected watchmakers around somehow manages to be the least interesting thing about this watch. Hidden behind a polished, pink gold caseback just jumping at the opportunity to be engraved is the Calibre 822, a manual-winding movement that features across the Reverso collection. It’s elongated into an oval shape to better fit the Reverso’s rectangular case, with some neat striping decoration and a 42-hour power reserve.
