IWC expands the Ingenieur on its 50th birthday, with new sizes, materials, diamonds, and a tourbillon
Tom AustinThree years ago, IWC Schaffhausen reset the Ingenieur. The collection was brought back into focus through a design that returned to its core principles, the integrated bracelet, the grid dial, and proportions that draw directly from Gérald Genta’s original vision. It felt like a considered re-establishment of what the Ingenieur is supposed to be, rather than another passing iteration. Since then, the range has expanded with purpose, building out the platform without losing sight of that foundation. Now, for Watches and Wonders 2026, IWC celebrates 50 years of the Ingenieur and, with that, has brought along some special pieces to mark the occasion. The next phase arrives in the form of five new references that continue to explore the model, each one offering a different angle on how the design can evolve while staying true to its identity. Let’s take a look at what the Ingenieur has in store for us.
IWC Ingenieur Automatic 35
First of all, proving that integrated sports watches don’t have to be 40mm+ is the Ingenieur Automatic 35. The collection was introduced last year with some restrained black, silver, and gold dials, but for 2026, IWC has turned the volume up a notch. The foundations remain, with its functional, integrated bracelet design built around a mid-size, 35mm platform. There’s a new signature deep-blue dial adorned with IWC’s grid motif and rhodium-plated hands. Visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback, the calibre 47110 offers 42 hours of power reserve, a gold-plated oscillating weight, and is finished with circular graining and Geneva stripes.
In addition to the new dial, IWC has dressed up the lighter-dial model with a diamond-crusted bezel finished in 18-carat 5N gold. Enhancing the 35mm Ingenieur, the bezel is embellished with 45 white diamonds totalling 0.7 carats. This is complemented by a silver-plated grid dial, finished with red-gold-plated hands and hour markers, giving this new model a fresh, flamboyant look.

IWC Ingenieur Automatic 42 IW338902
We all know that adding a green dial onto any watch is an instant improvement, but what if you made the entire watch green? Well, that’s precisely what IWC have done for its 42mm ceramic. Previously only available in black, the latest model adds a hue of dark olive to the case, bracelet and grid dial for a luxurious, characterful and frankly striking result. Not content with adding accents of 18-carat gold on the dial furniture, IWC has even used ultra-hard 18-carat “Armor Gold” on the bezel screws, and the crown is finished in solid 18-carat 5N gold, to top it off.
Powering this hulk is the IWC-manufactured 82110 calibre, featuring a 60-hour power reserve using a Pellaton winding system. Just like the watch’s case, the movement also includes zirconium oxide ceramic components, making it almost impervious to wear and tear. Overall, the ceramic Ingenieur is a highly technical watch that, in this new green colour, now brings a fresh, exciting perspective to the collection.

IWC Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41 IW344904
OK, now things are getting pretty serious. You may remember the incredible blue-dialled perpetual calendar Ingenieur from last year, and well, IWC just levelled it up once more. The 41mm integrated case and bracelet now arrives in grade 5 titanium, complete with a sexy, satin sandblasted finish. Replicating the finish of the titanium 40mm 3-handed variation from 2024, it offers a tactile, technical look while remaining premium, with superb attention to detail throughout.
Flip it over, and the in-house Calibre 82600 comes into view, complete with Pellaton winding and a 60-hour reserve. It uses Kurt Klaus’ simplified perpetual calendar system, so everything is set through the crown, keeping the case clean and straightforward to use. The trade-off is that it only moves forward, so any over-adjustment means either letting it run down or committing to a long trip through the calendar cycle. The calendar is displayed across three sub-dials, all finished in titanium to match the case, and set into a titanium-coloured grid dial.

IWC Ingenieur Tourbillon 41
Finally, IWC unveils the Ingenieur flagship, the solid 18-carat 5N gold Tourbillon 41. This new model pairs the reddish tones of the solid gold case with a stunning olive green grid dial, finished with 18-carat 5N gold hands and indices. The first 41mm Ingenieur to be finished in this extravagant precious metal, it also features an intricately crafted flying tourbillon escapement at 6 o’clock on the dial. To fit this in, IWC has even had to cut away the lower portion of the case and bezel, which may cause purists to pause, but, frankly, it sets it apart from the rest.
This complication forms the beating heart of the calibre 82905 automatic movement, which offers a substantial 80-hour power reserve, while beating at 28,800 Vph. Limited to 100-pieces, the Tourbillon 41 is a rare beast indeed, and in this colour combination, is it the most desirable Ingenieur ever made?
