INTRODUCING: The Zenith Chronomaster Sport Rose Gold brings warmth to a winning design

Nick Kenyon

I still remember the morning that the Zenith brand manager for Australia stepped into the T+T HQ, excited to show us what he’d brought with him on that summer day. The watch roll unfurled and we all saw it for the first time – the Zenith Chronomaster – a watch that we all knew would be big, both as a retail success and as a talking point for the entire watch community. A little while later the watch was publicly announced to the world and sure enough, both the orders and comments began flowing freely.  Now a little more than four months have passed and we have the Zenith Chronomaster Sport Rose Gold, which brings precious metal to a refined blend of designs from the Le Locle based brand.

If you haven’t yet seen Andrew McUtchen’s review of the stainless-steel version, you should check it our right here, because this new expression in 18k rose gold shares much of the same core design. Not only the case, but also the crown and pushers are now forged in precious metal, with all of the dial and bezel details sharing the same warm tone.

Unlike the stainless-steel references and their three-link bracelets, however, the Zenith Chronomaster Sport Rose Gold arrives on a black calfskin strap that is secured with a rose-gold folding clasp. This is a look that is a little more formal and works nicely to elevate the precious-metal reference visually.

While the dial side of the watch certainly got people talking at the beginning of this year, the view through the caseback remains a talking point for Zenith chronographs. Housing the El Primero calibre 3600, the movement runs at 36,000vph and the chronograph hand has been converted into a 1/10th of a second counter, racing around the dial six times quicker than a typical chronograph hand. It’s a predictable extension of the collection, but a welcome one that shows Zenith’s confidence in this striking new design.
