INTRODUCING: The new Breguet Classique 7337 and Classique Dame watches
Zach BlassThe Swatch Group is full of top-notch brands: Omega, Longines, Blancpain, Glashütte Original and more. But arguably the brand under their umbrella with the most grace and gravitas is Breguet. With an unapologetically classic, time-capsule aesthetic, truly engined-turned dials, and handsome calibres, Breguet’s Classique collection is a must visit in the metal at your local boutique when you are in the market for an elegant luxury timepiece for the wrist. With a blend of traditional aesthetics and modern watchmaking, the Classique, in its various forms, is a hard watch collection not to love. And recently Breguet has debuted two sets of additions to the catalogue within the Day-Date Moonphase 7337 and Dame lines.
Breguet Classique 7337
I first developed an attraction to the Day Date Moonphase 3337 – which was the 35.9mm predecessor to the 39mm Breguet Classique 7337 we have today. It embodies the watch I want to reach for when I am ready to suit up for a formal occasion, or simply when I am looking to just exude classy “boss energy”. And, considering it is only 9.95mm thick it will slide under a cuff with ease. The complicated timepiece gorgeously utilises its engined-turned dial’s real estate, with a day aperture just above 9′, a date aperture just above 3′, and a moon phase indication at the 12′ position. A dial within a dial, a rich chapter ring conveys the hours and minutes and an asymmetrical running seconds register within the central medallion livens up the dial. The touch of Breguet blue to the apertures, as well as the blued Breguet hands add playful elegance to its sombre this-means-business framework.
Inside, visible beneath and exhibition caseback, is the in-house Breguet calibre 502.3 QSE1. It is handsomely decorated, just like its solid gold engine-turned dial, with an engine-turned winding rotor, Côtes de Genève striping, and chamfered edges on the bridges. Two precious configurations can be purchased. Stealth-wealth lovers will opt for white gold, while those who want a little extra warmth and colour will gravitate towards the rose gold model. Breguet Classique Dame
The Dame, while oriented towards women, will have strong appeal for those looking for a trifecta of engine-turning, diamonds, and mother of pearl, in a smaller case size. A clean and elegant three hander, an outer mother of pearl ring replaces the typical metallic chapter ring – displaying Breguet numerals for the hours and a dotted minutes track. Blued Breguet hands grace the centre of the dial.
The signature coining of the caseband adds distinct flair to the aesthetic, and the soldered lugs are immaculately executed in line with traditional watchmaking craft. Not only are diamonds set in the bezel, but you will also notice the crown of these two watches have a diamond inset as well.
There are plenty of factory leather straps to explore, and they are all outfitted with quick-release technology, a first for Breguet, that makes the Dame a certified strap monster. It’s exhibited in-house calibre 537/3 offers the same 45 hours of power reserve afforded in the 7337’s calibre 502.3 QSE1 and also follows suit in utilizing a silicon escapement to protect against magnetism.
