INTRODUCING: The Bulova Frank Sinatra Summer Wind Collection

Fergus Nash

Few celebrities hold such strong sway in the public consciousness as the Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra. Having dominated both music and film throughout the 1940s to ‘60s, Sinatra’s legacy is firmly cemented through his lasting works as well as his eternal style and demeanour, the latter of which Bulova have captured within the Bulova Frank Sinatra Summer Wind watches. Bulova’s connection with Sinatra began in the 1950s when they were a sponsor of The Frank Sinatra Show, and the Frank Sinatra collection was launched in 2020 in a collaboration with the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts.

You may not have thought there was that much of a market for a Frank Sinatra wristwatch let alone an entire collection, but the fact that there are no fewer than 12 Bulova watches bearing the Sinatra name is a testament to his popularity and marketability. Each of the watches with different styles are named after some of his most famous songs including My Way, The Best Is Yet To Come, and Fly Me To The Moon, but it seems as though Summer Wind has earned the latest honour of representation in this deliciously sophisticated package.

The case follows the formula of vintage style with modern proportion. The rounded head and scooped lugs create an almost ornate 1950s vibe along with its high-polish finishing. The measurements are 40mm in diameter and 47.5mm lug-to-lug, which is certainly jumbo for a watch in this style but still compact enough to be gentlemanly on an average wrist. Both versions are made from stainless steel, although one has a rather sumptuous rose-gold coating.

The dial of the Bulova Frank Sinatra Summer Wind also hones in on that 1950s classic look with alpha hands and applied hour markers, made extra special with two key Sinatra-related touches. The most obvious is the marker at 12 o’clock being Frank Sinatra’s iconic fedora, giving the watch an unmistakable signature without needing to have his name printed on the dial. The second is the orange highlights on the seconds hand, automatic printing, and dots on the minute track, because orange was actually Sinatra’s favourite colour. The steel case version has a dial of black enamel and a black leather strap, while the rose-gold reference is partnered with a slate-grey enamel dial and matching grey strap.
