INTRODUCING: The Rake & Revolution x Bamford London Snoopy GMT “Joe Cool”
Zach BlassIt is no secret that the watch world has a huge soft spot for Snoopy. Omega has leveraged the beloved Peanuts character in various Omega Speedmaster references, the latest of which commands quite a waiting list at retailers today. We have even seen our friend George Bamford experiment with the character in his GMT line, a watch that Time+Tide enjoys a personal connection with having released our own limited-edition GMT 1 & 2 late last year. Now The Rake & Revolution x Bamford London team have joined forces to deliver a new style of Snoopy GMT with a limited-edition “Joe Cool” variant.
Revolution explains: “The new Bamford London GMT watch features the Snoopy character as his alter ego, Joe Cool on the dial. Aloof, unflappable, the hip dog we’d all like to be. Putting on his sunglasses, Joe Cool believes he is really cool, and who can disagree.”
The cushion-shaped, stainless-steel case of the watch is a sporty 4omm in diameter yet slender for the category at 11.7mm thick. Armed with a push-down crown, the watch is 100 metres water-resistant making it a versatile travel companion – which its GMT complication is ripe for when the borders re-open. It features a primarily satin-brushed finish, with a hint of mirror polish revealing itself at the base of the conical bezel that will ensure the watch slides well beneath a shirt cuff.
Gracing the matte white dial is Snoopy’s alter ego “Joe Cool”, whose arms and paws are utilized as the hours and minutes hands, while his faithful sidekick Woodstock serves as the tip of the black GMT hand. White hour indexes seem to blend and get lost into the white backdrop, but the outer minutes scale, and the gaps every fifth minute (or hour) make it easier to spot each hour marker. Framing the dial is the inner rotating 24 hour GMT bezel that can be controlled via a second crown at the 10′ position. Adjacent to the shortened third hour marker is a date aperture that reveals a black on white date disc that matches well with the overall aesthetic.
As we have seen from Revolution in the past, they do not shy away from totally decking out a dial in lume. The Rake & Revolution x Bamford London limited edition Snoopy GMT “Joe Cool” features ample SuperLuminova® that allows the dial to come alive at night, as if Joe Cool was on his way to a Steve Aoki concert. The inner rotating bezel, hands, hour markers, and Snoopy “Joe Cool” figure is covered in luminescent material and the result will surely have owners playing with their UV torches upon arrival.
The watch comes on a rugged yet comfortable corder strap in black with white stitching, tying in the black and white aesthetic of the dial and bezel. Upon request, buyers can go a brighter route by requesting an inverse configuration should you prefer the opportunity to whiten the overall look. The corder strap is secured to the wrist via a familiar pin/buckle system, and there are enough loopholes to ensure you can find your perfect fit.
Inside the watch is the tried and true Sellita SW330-2 movement with 42 hours of power reserve. The 25 jewels and 28,800 vph caliber from personal experience with my Time+Tide x Bamford London GMT1 is well regulated and will keep accurate time whether home or abroad fully utilizing the second timezone of the GMT hand. It ticks away beneath a solid caseback, engraved with the Revolution logo as well as its number of out of the 100 pieces.
