Hamilton likes to call itself the watchmaker of filmmakers, and it has earned that title in three distinct ways over the years: putting existing watches on screen, building custom pieces for productions, and, with this release, doing something it hasn’t quite attempted before – designing a watch that never appears in the film at all, but is meant to embody it. Hamilton and Christopher Nolan go back a while, having worked together on Interstellar, Tenet, and Oppenheimer, but those collaborations were about watches living in front of the camera. This new piece, tied to Nolan’s mythic action epic The Odyssey, in cinemas July 17, 2026, was developed alongside the director as a tribute to the story itself, not a prop from it.
That premise creates a genuinely fun design problem: how do you build a watch for a world that predates mechanical timekeeping? Hamilton’s answer leans on Bronze Age materials and Homer’s own props rather than watchmaking convention. The film’s central hero, Odysseus, and specifically his helmet and sword, are the reference points, and bronze – the metal of the era’s armour and weaponry – was the obvious case material, worn-in patina and all.
On the dial, a bronze-toned pattern lifted from the texture of the helmet sits beneath sword-shaped bronze-toned hands, an unmistakable nod to Odysseus’ blade. Even the 12 o’clock index has a backstory, modelled on a rivet found on the sword’s scabbard. It’s the kind of granular detail that suggests genuine narrative thinking rather than a branding exercise with a movie poster stuck on top.
The 42mm bronze case borrows its shape from the Khaki Field Automatic, dressed here with a circular finish and paired to a brown grained leather strap with a striking central stitch line. Flip it over, and the case back switches to titanium for comfort and durability, engraved with Odysseus’ helmet alongside Christopher Nolan’s own signature – a nice touch for anyone chasing director-approved production ephemera rather than just another movie tie-in.
Beyond the watch itself, Hamilton includes a wearable replica of Athena’s pin, the talisman gifted to Odysseus by Penelope and worn by him throughout the film, reworked here as a brooch. It’s a genuinely different way to extend a watch release beyond a strap and a box, closer to a costume department crossover than typical branded merchandise. The packaging keeps the black-and-bronze palette going, complete with a round metallic shield emblem, a commemorative plaque, and a dedicated home for the pin.
The run is capped at 2,112 pieces, a number pulled directly from the poem’s own fixation with 12: the Odyssey runs 12,000 lines, 12 ships sailed for Troy, and Odysseus proves his identity by firing an arrow through 12 axe heads. That’s a level of lore-digging that could easily read as a gimmick on paper, but Hamilton and Nolan have clearly worked to make every design cue traceable back to text rather than vibes, and that groundedness is what should separate this from the usual movie tie-in watch.
We’ll be curious to see how collectors respond to a limited edition that skips the “as seen in the film” hook Hamilton usually leans on for its cinema work. But there’s something, perhaps, more interesting about a watch imagined for a story rather than lifted from a set, and a Homer-literate design brief this thorough is a rare thing to see executed at retail. Hamilton has built a genuine niche in film collaborations, and The Odyssey feels like one of its most ambitious swings yet.
