Hamilton creates a special watch for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

We all know how deeply connected Hamilton is to Hollywood and the world of films. But now they are taking their commitment to storytelling into a new medium, with this limited edition watch, designed for the upcoming video game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. We’ve seen Hamilton go to these lengths recently with other productions, such as the pieces they created especially for Dune: Part Two, working with the costume departments to create props to be worn on screen and models to be sold commercially. Here we have the same thing but now in a video game, where the team at Hamilton has worked alongside Hideo Kojima’s legendary team at Kojima Productions, especially the art director Yoji Shinkawa, to produce the American Classic Boulton Death Stranding 2 Limited Edition.
Let’s take a look at the watch itself. While it may be based on the rounded rectangular shape of the American Classic Boulton, it bears little resemblance to the far more traditional watch we saw on Harrison Ford’s wrist in Indiana Jones: The Dial of Destiny. Instead, we have a far more futuristic-looking watch, made to match the apocalyptic setting you play through in the Death Stranding series. Constructed from a titanium frame-like case that has been given a black PVD coating, there are seven individual pieces of sapphire crystal, with one main central piece held in by two columns on either side of three trapezoidal pieces of sapphire. This frame over the dial does obscure it partially, but in doing so gives it the sense of superlative structure, making it feel over-engineered and ready to take on the tough conditions that Norman Reedus’ character, Sam Porter Bridges, has to go through.
Tying in with a key theme of the game, there is a lot of black on display here, with the dial being no exception. The matte black base has grey markers, hands, and text highlighted by the contrasting use of bright orange for the seconds hand and 12 o’clock marker. The entire case and matching, wide-link bracelet is in a stealthy black titanium PVD.
Inside is the automatic H-10 calibre, a movement that has been widely adopted by the brand as it’s version of the Powermatic 80, it can be found in fan favourites such as the Khaki Field Automatic. An excellent choice for something like this, given that the movement is so widespread these days, even post-apocalypse, you’d probably still be able to find spare parts if it ever needed to be serviced.
