GENEVA WATCH DAYS: Oris delivers new Divers Sixty-Five with caliber 400 movement and more
Zach BlassOris has been on a hot streak of late, debuting the ProPilot X cal. 400, various Aquis divers including the Billion Oyster Project Limited Edition, as well as the Wings of Hope Limited Editions among others. The independent brand has proven they can play in a versatile range of price points – maintaining entry-level pieces with Sellita-based calibres, while also offering in-house calibre-powered timepieces for not too much more. This mixed-movement approach has extended to their two new Geneva Watch Days Oris novelties: a Sellita-powered 36.5mm Aquis Date trio with mother of pearl dials, and a new first-ever standard production Oris Divers Sixty-Five 12 Hour cal. 400.
Oris Aquis 36.5mm Mother of Pearl Dials
If you appreciate compact and colorful watches, the three new Oris Aquis Date 36.5mm debuts will definitely pique your fancy. In the wake of the Billion Oyster Project Limited Edition, clearly Oris recognised, or anticipated, the love that colourful mother-of-pearl dials would get. Like looking up beneath the surface of the water, each of the three mother-of-pearl dials – Aegean Blue, Seafoam Green, and Blush Pink – appear as if rays of light are passing through the wavy waters of the ocean. I like how distinct the shades of the Seafood Green and Blush Pink are, popular colours done in a fresh way. But don’t get it twisted, their Aegean Blue appears very rich and versatile as well. The steel relief timing scale bezels allow the spotlight to be fully afforded to the dials, which, forgive me, results in a strong pop of colour (take a shot).

Oris Divers Sixty-Five 12 Hour Calibre 400
While the Aquis is Oris’ modern interpretation of a dive watch, the Sixty-Five harkens back to the spirit of the original dive watch of the brand. This new Divers Sixty-Five 12 Hour Bezel is their first in standard production with their top-notch in-house calibre 400. It takes the technical facet of the offering up a notch, with an anti-magnetic automatic calibre that boasts a full five days of power reserve and is backed by an industry-leading 10-year warranty. The watch, offered on both a leather strap and stainless-steel bracelet, may have a third of the Aquis’ depth rating – but 100m is certainly more than enough for most watch wearers and the allure of the in-house calibre is definitely strong. As its name suggests, the dial matching black aluminum insert conveys a 12-hour scale rather than a full diver’s timing scale. It is an aesthetic most are less accustomed to, but, to be fair, the second time zone the scale affords the wearer is much more useful.
