GALLERY: ‘My Connection to the Sea’ – a Time and Tide production with Lindy Klim for Omega

Watchmakers often talk about the ‘music’ a well-made mechanical watch makes when it is held close to the ear. At a recent Omega event, ‘Her Journey Through Time’, Omega International Heritage Manager Petros Protopapas talked about this tiny symphony. He said it’s one of the many reasons he loves watches.

Looking at these photographs of Lindy Klim, taken by Sam Bisso, you could be mistaken for thinking – in amongst the elegant movements captured – that there was music playing when this magic happened. But in fact, it was silent.

Save for the sound of the waves, the seagulls and the delicate whirring of the calibre 8520, inside the Omega Aqua Terra Master Co-Axial on her slender wrist.

I think you’re either a ‘city girl’ or a ‘country girl’ or a ‘beach girl’… I’m definitely a beach girl. For me it’s that place to go to and relax, be calm and collect my thoughts.

A lot of my thinking is done at the beach…It’s the peace and quiet you find in the sound of the waves, the open space and even the smells.

A dip in the ocean can change your whole state. If ever I’m having a tough day, I just head straight for the beach and dive in – it gets all of your senses going.

Time passes differently at the beach. It doesn’t matter how long you’re there – two hours can feel like 10 minutes. Ten minutes can do the work of two hours.

Freedom for me being able to be who I am, without any restrictions. It’s also about how I live my life. Right now I’m feeling really free and I’m happy with my life. Where I live, the opportunities I have – all allow me to have that freedom.

The mother-of-pearl on the watch reminds me of the beach, which makes it divine. The way it shimmers, reflects and shines – it’s so beautiful – and it comes from the ocean.

It’s only been in the last 10 years or so, since I’ve had children, that I’ve found my confidence. I was always so scared and shy of the world, now since having kids, nothing bothers me the way it used to.

Beauty is about confidence and personality but it can also be about beautiful things – I’m creative and aesthetic, so I’m into the way things look and feel.

Recently I’ve had some difficult times. My advice to others is to be true to yourself. Make sure you surround yourself with amazing people – don’t forget about your beautiful friends! Nourish yourself as much as possible and you can get through anything.

I reinvent myself all the time. I don’t like things to be the same. I get bored really easily – I move on, I do different things and discover new parts of myself.

My best shoots are with people like the team and crew we had today. They’re my best days. That’s when your best work comes through. The team is everything.
