FRIDAY WIND DOWN: New Nomos, Kurono and Louis Erard drops this week

Zach Blass

This week for the Wind Down I am going to dig into some last-minute headlines you may have missed. Within the last 24 hours, Nomos, Kurono and Louis Erard all delivered some under-the-radar reveals.

Nomos refine their Ludwig neomatik 41 Date with revised date disc

Earlier today, Nomos debuted their new Ludwig neomatik 41 date that, in an effort to create an even more harmonious design, now features Roman numerals for both the hour indices and the date window. Small detail, but it further bolsters their Bauhaus design into even more distinct territory. You can learn more about the Ludwig neomatik 41 date here.

Kurono upgrade their Chronograph 1 with visually thinner Mk.2 case and new rose dial

Yesterday, Kurono announced their new Chronograph 1 Mk.2 with a stunning rose-gold toned dial with black registers, a first ever 12 Arabic numeral appliqué for the chronograph dial, and a refined new three-part case that gives the watch a visually thinner profile than its predecessors. The Chronograph 1 Mk.2 is priced at US$3,460 (JPY 483,000) and will be available for ordering on November 24 at 11pm JST. Deliveries start Christmas 2022 through to early Feb 2023. You can learn more about the watch here.

Watch meme of the week: The watch may not be genius, but this Scottish Watches meme is

The Genius Genta, rebranded Ingenieuex, is arguably the lamest watch of all time. So when one individual heavily promoted the auction sale of an NFT Tiffany-blue dial variant of this half Royal Oak/ half Nautilus abomination coming to auction, a lot of heat was thrown their way. And this meme perfectly sums up how many of us feel about the watch and lot.

Wrist shot of the week: Delugs gets de idea here

It should hardly be a surprise that one of the watch community’s go-to destinations for aftermarket straps knows how to perfectly pair one of their own with a Grand Seiko watch. The blue barenia strap in the picture really complements the hand-blued central second hand of this SBGY003.

Time+Tide Shop select of the week: Mido Ocean Star GMT Special Edition

Mido is enriching its Ocean Star diving watches collection with a version equipped with the highly practical GMT function. It clearly displays the time in two different time zones: home time and local time. On the back of the sporty Swiss watch – fitted with the Caliber 80 automatic movement, which offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours – Mido has engraved the time-zone indications. The extremely easy-to-use GMT function offers twice as much freedom for those who are either by the ocean or on an adrenalin-fuelled adventure.

INTRODUCING: The Ball Engineer M Skindiver III Beyond combines slick looks with rugged swagger

As a brand of both heritage and cutting-edge design, we’re quite used to seeing a mix of looks from Ball. Generally, they have a sharp and sophisticated look, giving the impression that their watches could survive a year in the wilderness but still make it to dinner reservations in a respectable form. The latest iteration of the M Skindiver III Beyond retains all of those qualities, while also introducing some more curves, complexity and deep blue hues. Read the full introducing review here.

£80k Omega spends 20 years in a drawer until this recent episode of Antiques Roadshow

On a recent episode of Antiques Roadshow, one man discovered that the Omega Speedmaster Apollo-Soyuz watch he inherited from his brother, and has been sitting in a drawer unworn for 20 years, was worth £80,000 – a far cry from the £300 his brother purchased it for.
