Formex unviels the Aria, the brand’s most ambitious watch yet, featuring its first exclusive manufacture micro-rotor movement

Formex has spent the better part of the last decade building a reputation as one of the most engineering-focused names in independent microbrands. Ever since Raphaël Granito took over the brand in 2016, the company has consistently approached product development with the mindset of solving problems differently, whether through suspension case systems, carbon-composite construction, class-leading clasp design, or finding ways to deliver genuinely impressive specs without drifting into inaccessible territory.
That willingness to keep experimenting is part of what makes the microbrand and independent scene such an exciting corner of the industry. While many larger brands are understandably tied to heritage, continuity, and commercial caution, smaller independents still have room to take risks and pursue ideas simply because they believe collectors will appreciate them. The new Aria Manufacture Chronometer is an example of Formex leaning fully into that freedom. The Aria is an ultra-thin integrated-bracelet watch with a brand-new micro-rotor calibre developed alongside Horage, a sculptural titanium case weighing just 78 grams, and a design language that feels far more organic and fluid than anything else in the current Formex catalogue. The Aria is easily the brand’s most ambitious release to date.
I’ve mentioned before that creating an integrated bracelet watch in 2026 is a challenge; the risk of it being derivative and over-complementary to other watches on the market is a risk, but Formex, forever the innovators, has managed this well with the Aria. The watch head itself is a clear tonneau shape, with just enough subtle curves and polished edges to keep it looking unique and fresh. The thin, brushed and polished bezel is circular, but it sits on a machined surface that almost looks like a rounded square, giving the watch some additional, interesting angles.
The lightweight grade 5 titanium case is a familiar 40mm, but from the side, the Aria just disappears. At just 6.9mm thick overall, it slips well into ultra-thin territory, dramatically thinner than most microbrand sports watches on the market, and as it weighs just 78 grams on the bracelet, you may even forget you’re wearing it altogether. Formex has even managed this while incorporating sapphire crystals on both the front and back, which usually results in some extra bulk. There is one small compromise, however, and that’s the 30-metre water resistance. It’s still perfectly useable everyday, but this is certainly no diver.
One of the most striking things you first notice about the Aria is its dial. Stamped from a single piece of brass, it features a concave surface, split into 12 corresponding concave fillets between each hour marker. It’s a unique surface feature that plays with your eyes, casting unusual, soft shadows across the dial in unexpected directions. This is paired with a unique set of applied, bevelled hour markers and skeletonised hands, which are rose gold-plated and filled with custom Tritec Super-LumiNova.
There are three dial variations for the Aria: Denso Blue, Selva Green, and Ardesia Grey. The blue and the grey are relatively reserved, subtly blending in, while the green is quite alluring and unusual; different from most green dials you’d usually see. All three dials pair beautifully with the rose gold-plated dial furniture and are presented on a matte-textured surface. Glancing at six o’clock, the details continue, with a small seconds register featuring a sharply executed radial engraved pattern.
If the ultra-sharp, ultra-thin case wasn’t enough, Formex went to town with the movement, too. Inside sits the Manufacture Calibre FX01, the brand’s first exclusive calibre, a customised version of the K2 micro-rotor movement from independent Swiss manufacturer Horage. At just 2.9mm thick, the movement is the reason the Aria can remain so skinny, thanks predominantly to its gorgeous micro-rotor design.
The micro-rotor construction improves winding efficiency by approximately 55%, delivering a 72-hour power reserve while beating at 3.5 Hz. Additionally, the movement offers an accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day, which is COSC-tested and certified. Another interesting element of the FX01 is that it’s been equipped with a full silicon regulating system, including the hairspring, escape wheel, and pallet fork, which is lightweight, durable and entirely anti-magnetic. Not only that, but the FX01 is stunning to look at through the oversized sapphire exhibition caseback.
Finally, the watch is finished off with a beautifully tapered grade 5 titanium bracelet that matches the case. Again, Formex has managed to make an integrated bracelet design look unique by forgoing a traditional three-link design in favour of a more tactile, organic look. It can be removed via quick-release pins and features Formex’s patented micro-adjustment system, which allows for 3 millimetres of adjustment on the clasp without opening it or removing the watch from the wrist.
