Farer has always been a brand that offered great value for money, with a unique aesthetic. And that’s why they were one of the first brands we got in our London Disocovery Studio when we opened up last November. Since then the British brand has brought us a handsome set of three field watches and now we have an updated travel timer from them in the form of four new GMT Bezel watches.
Between these four watches we have two updates, in the 40mm case size, and the two new addions, in the 38mm case size, which offer collector favourites whilst adding some fresh flavour to the catalgoue. The two 40mm models, the Maze III and Crooms III are both on their third iterations, with the Crooms deep burgundy perhaps being the most evocative out of the two for me. While the Maze dial offers a reassuringly familiar dial texture in a clean, pearlescent colour.
The two 38mm bring heaps of personality through the combination of texture and colour, as the bright white Maze Blue dial plays off the deep blue of the GMT bezel and hand, while the egg-shell of the Charlotn Green dial allows the white applied hour markers to almost melt away, only springing to life once the X1 Super-LumiNova is activated.
Inside all of these watches sits the Sellita SW330-2 with its Top Grede of finishing. This movement makes these watches caller GMTs, meaning that GMT hand can be set independently of the main hour and minute hands. Alongside this you also have a quickset date, with each date window being colour matched to the dial it appears in.
The bubble crystal on these watches adds a slight vintage charm to them, but doesn’t add too much tot he overall thickness, which comes in at 12.5mm on both case sizes. Pair this with the short lug-to-lug of 44.8mm of the 40mm and 42.25mm for the 38mm, these sit on the wrist rather nicely.
Helping them sit on the wrist is the subtle leather straps that they each come with which help make them better aligned as a true adventure timepiece. You also have the option of a three-link bracelet that can be purchased separately for US$220 and swapped out with the quick release spring bars.
