DOXA’s Sea Emerald embraces green dials for the first time ever
Buffy Acacia- Doxa’s first-ever green dial is now a standard option among its main divers.
- The six collections with Sea Emerald available are the SUB 200, 300, 300T, 600T and 300 Carbon.
- It only comes in a sunburst finish, heightening its class.
Colour has been one of Doxa’s major wheelhouses ever since the late 1960s when the Doxa SUB 300T was flooding both the professional and recreational diving scenes. Of course, the Professional orange dial is the quintessential Doxa colour, but Divingstar yellow and Searambler silver have proven just as adored on vintage models. The craziest consideration is that up until 2024, Doxa has never released a green-dialled watch. Thankfully, that has since changed with the introduction of the Sea Emerald dial, now available across most of Doxa’s product lines on the Time+Tide Shop.
Although green dials have entered the mainstream over the last four or so years, it’s not as if green watches never existed before 2020. That’s why it’s surprising that Doxa has never dabbled in green before, even for limited editions. The new Sea Emerald makes a strong distinction from the other classic colours like Professional, Divingstar and Aquamarine in that it’s the first colour to exclusively come in a sunburst finish. Now, instead of competing with the others and their flat, pop-art appeal, Sea Emerald reaches the same level of sophistication as the silver Searambler. Even though the particular shade of green was inspired by certain areas of the sea, the choice to name it after a precious gemstone was spot-on for its shimmering appearance.
Despite the brushed texture eliciting some notions of grandeur, the Sea Emerald dials still feel at home on Doxa’s assortment of heavy-duty sports watches. Admittedly, it does class them up considerably, especially on the timeless Doxa SUB 300T, where the green has been complimented by gilt hands and indices. The SUB 200, with all of its smooth ‘60s swagger, takes the Sea Emerald in its stride, and the ‘80s blockiness of the 600T takes it in a much more contemporary direction. It’s even more powerful on the SUB 300 Carbon, as the silvery highlights stand out even more against the smoky, marbled greys throughout the case.
The total lineup for the Sea Emerald dial includes the SUB 200, 300, 300T, 600T and 300 Carbon, signalling that it will continue to be a staple for Doxa’s future releases as well. It hasn’t been announced for the chronograph watches. However, they haven’t seen much attention in general since their release. The prices remain the same as the other dial variants, and production isn’t limited in any way. It will be interesting to see if green now enders the wider Doxa palette, and maybe we’ll see some different green tones or textures slipping into future limited editions.
