Christopher Ward Cleans Up with the Trident 30×30

If, like me, you suspected back in 2019 that Christopher Ward’s partnership with the Blue Marine Foundation was going to be more than a one-and-done affair, give yourself a pat on the back. Fast forward through £750,000 raised for marine restoration and tackling overfishing, and the two UK entities are back with their fourth joint project: the Trident 30×30. For collectors looking to add to their watchbox with a clear conscience, the Trident 30×30 offers a tangible way to support ocean conservation.
Limited to 500 pieces worldwide, this launch directly supports Blue Marine’s 30×30 Ocean Action Plan, a global charity effort to protect at least 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030. As such, British watchmaker Christopher Ward, who is no stranger to raising money for a good cause, is donating £30 from every watch sold to the charity. As Mike France, CEO and Co-founder of Christopher Ward, notes, “having grown up by the coast, marine ecosystems are very close to my heart, and supporting them is something that makes everyone at Christopher Ward incredibly proud.”
The new model builds on a lineage of conservation-focused pieces through a partnership that officially started with the 2020 C60 Blue Limited Edition and the C60 Trident Pro 600 Mk3 Blue Marine Foundation. The watch-and-charity duo followed those models up with the C63 SH21 Blue Marine in 2023. While those earlier models laid the groundwork for this ongoing charitable relationship, the Trident 30×30 turns to a very specific, vibrant underwater resident for its aesthetic direction. The parrotfish.
As Designer Matthew Sweatman explains, parrotfish “are among the ocean’s most visually striking species, but they also play a vital role in reef health by eating algae that can inhibit coral growth. Their connection to previous Blue Marine conservation projects made them a natural source of inspiration for the design.”
The dial of the new Trident 30×30 features a custom-stamped wave pattern finished in matte parrotfish blue, designed to mimic the motion of ocean currents. Contrast elements come from the bright coral-coloured central seconds hand and the diamond-polished hands and applied markers, filled with Grade X1 Super-LumiNova, designed to echo sunlight beneath the sea.
The watch uses the brand’s signature Trident Reef case profile measuring 41mm in diameter and 11.45mm in height. Constructed in four distinct parts, it pairs a robust stainless-steel inner core with a matte-aluminium outer section and a unidirectional bezel in the same parrotfish blue as the dial. Flip the watch over, and you won’t find an exhibition display window; instead, a solid screw-down caseback is deeply stamped with ‘Blue Marine Foundation’ and ’30×30′ markings in a highly polished finish. The watch offers 200 metres of water resistance, making it more than capable for actual diving.
Under the hood sits a significant mechanical update for the brand. The Trident 30×30 is the very first watch in Christopher Ward’s contemporary dive platform to feature Sellita’s new SW200-2 Power+ automatic movement. Running at a frequency of 28,800 vph with a daily timing tolerance of -5 to +12 seconds per day, this upgraded 26-jewel calibre boosts the power reserve to a highly practical 65 hours. The movement itself carries an Elaboré finish, complete with a ‘Colimaçoné’ pattern on the rotor tucked safely away behind that solid steel caseback.
Alongside its recycled bamboo box, protected by a Notpla sleeve (a paper crafted entirely from seaweed by-product), the new Trident 30×30 is available on a parrotfish-blue or white Aquaflex rubber strap, or a Bader bracelet, as seen on models like the C60 Pool Diver x seconde/seconde.
