Brad Pitt confirmed wearing custom vintage IWC on F1 movie set

It’s no secret that producer Lewis Hamilton has gained unprecedented access to the paddock for the cast and crew of the upcoming Apple+ movie F1, but until now, there have been no wildly unexpected watches spotted on any of the stars in the movie. That changed today, when Brad Pitt was spotted wearing a vintage IWC Ingenieur with a green dial that does not exist.

While the exact genesis of this watch is not entirely clear, our sources have confirmed the watch is in fact an IWC Ingenieur “Jumbo” SL Automatic ref. 1832 from 1976 with a custom green dial.

This could mean one of two things. Either it is a custom commissioning for the collector which happens to tie in with a heavily IWC-adjacent production. Or, it is a prop department working overtime to deliver real wrist heat to the no doubt hot, hot movie. Either way, Brad Pitt has gone all out to match the watch to his outfit and accessories, and it’s a look that, to quote Andrew, has us shook.

Watch enthusiasts and collectors have long kept track of the watches worn on Pitt’s wrist, but his wrist was never more in focus until the moment he was spotted with both vintage and modern Vacheron Constantin 222 watches. Then it became irrefutable that Brad Pitt was down with the watch-collecting sickness like the rest of us watch geeks. Perhaps this custom vintage IWC Ingenieur signals the next chapter of Pitt’s collecting journey, his focus shifted toward more personal and unique mementos.

This spotting has gotten us even more hyped up for the film’s arrival in cinemas, with Andrew’s engine already racing after hanging with Pitt’s co-star Damson Idris at an IWC event in the United Kingdom. My colleagues are well and truly Formula 1 fans and follow the sport closely. Hell, even I – an NYC kid without a driver’s license – am stoked to see this movie.

F1 trailer, synopsis, and release date

Racing legend Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) is coaxed out of retirement to lead a struggling Formula 1 team—and mentor a young hotshot driver (Damson Idris)—while chasing one more chance at glory. The feature has been shot during actual Grand Prix weekends as the team competes against the titans of the sport.

F1 will hit cinemas Summer 2025.
