Bausele’s first integrated sports watch, the Elemental, is a collaborative high water mark
Time+Tide- Australian brand Bausele unveils its first integrated sports watch, co-designed with input from over 400 members of the Australian watch community.
- It combines robust specs and a sandwich dial design with Bausele’s signature hollow crown, which contains Australian sand from two evocative locations.
- Originally developed for members of the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA), it’s now available to the public during a limited pre-order window.
The integrated bracelet sports watch has become one of modern watchmaking’s most contested grounds. From affordable favourites like the Tissot PRX to revived icons like the Vacheron Constantin 222 or high-end independent offerings like the Trilobe Trente-Deux, everyone’s staking a claim. The challenge isn’t making one anymore – it’s making one that matters. Enter Bausele’s Elemental, the Sydney brand’s first integrated bracelet diver: a watch shaped by 400 voices, grounded in place, and a new level of refinement from the brand.
One of the best things about independent and microbrands is that, precisely because they’re small and nimble, they can have an extremely close connection to their audiences and really respond to their needs and desires. And that’s exactly what Bausele did when designing the Elemental. A group of over 400 watch lovers, collectors, creatives, and adventurers – a group that Bausele has dubbed its “Time Architects” – were polled for input into the Elemental’s design. The result? A refreshingly different take on an integrated sports watch.
The dial makes this clear immediately. A sandwiched construction layers a textured lower level beneath a thick lacquer upper layer, where applied indices and logo hover, casting shadows. Bausele explains that the effect is meant to evoke the feeling of looking through a diver’s mask beneath the surface – a soothing but also quintessentially Australian experience. The dual-scale bezel carries the philosophy further: the outer ring tracks 60 minutes; the inner 12-hour scale offers a second time zone. Bausele calls it “Breathe/Connect” – a reminder to be mindful that’s also emblematic of the Australian obsession with the water (and globetrotting).
Its 40mm case wears slimmer than its 12.2mm height suggests, thanks to the sleek caseback design first introduced on Bausele’s Sydney Diver. The case itself blends brushed, polished, and sandblasted finishes, giving it a sense of refinement – yet that 4 o’clock crown provides a sporty bent. Speaking of the crown, the signature design cue of the brand returns: the Bausele Elemental features a hollow crown that holds sand from two different Aussie locations. The Oceanic Blue holds sand from Sydney’s laid-back and azure Northern Beaches, while the Inferno Black carries volcanic black sand from Currumbin’s Elephant Rock, a coastline shaped by fire and time.
Inside sits a Swiss Sellita SW200 automatic movement – proven, reliable, serviceable anywhere. What sets the Elemental apart is how it’s protected. An anti-shock case design uses a stainless steel capsule reinforced by three rubber buffers on top and two on the sides, making it exceptionally impact-resistant. The antimagnetic caseback adds just 1.5mm to the profile, keeping total thickness at 12.2mm while guarding against one of mechanical watchmaking’s most common failures. Water-resistance is set at 200 metres.
What about the bracelet, though? Bausele have done a great job here: the integrated bracelet tapers from 26mm to 18mm, combining brushed and polished links with a micro-adjustment clasp. The sleek, integrated pushers of the clasp are particularly well-considered. The bracelet will soon be joined by rubber and leather strap options, too.
Closing thoughts
Bausele’s Elemental represents the brand’s most confident expression yet. Swiss precision meets Australian spirit in a watch that doesn’t compete with hype, but offers an alternative: story over status, with authentic Antipodean touches.
“The Elemental is a project that’s very close to my heart and one that has already had an incredible response from our community,” Bausele founder Christo Hoppe tells Time+Tide, adding that “it feels like a rebirth for Bausele to be launching this model.” Calling it a rebirth seems apt: the Elemental is Bausele’s best watch yet.
