Bausele’s community-driven Elemental is back with an Australian beach-inspired twist

Tom Austin
  • Australian microbrand Bausele has opened its made-to-order period once again for its latest model, the Elemental, this time introducing an all-new colourway, the Coorong Mist.
  • The affordable, community-driven, integrated-designed Elemental features a 40mm 316L stainless steel case with an integrated soft-iron Faraday cage and a screw-down crown that showcases actual sand from Coorong Beach, visible through a unique crown display window.
  • The new colourway features a lacquered, rippled dial finished in a fumé-style taupe colour, paired with a dual-function, taupe-coloured rotating bezel.

Australia may not be the first place you think of when it comes to wristwatch brands; however, the fact that Time+Tide exists is a testament to the fact that there is a huge Australian presence in the watch community, and in fact, there are a lot more watch brands from down under than you might think. One of the most prominent Australian brands is arguably Bausele. It’s been around since 2011, and it’s a brand that only a few months ago proved with its latest model, the Elemental, that the Australian watch community can hold its own when it comes to contributing to a watch’s design. The Elemental arrived as a made-to-order piece, available only during a finite order period, and now, as we’re deep into 2026, that window has opened once more, and with it comes an entirely new colourway that runs a little deeper than a choice of dial.

The Elemental’s overall design is the result of input from over 400 watch enthusiasts and Bausele customers, bringing together design features and elements that, once combined, create something quite cohesive and technically proficient. The 40mm case fully integrates into the bracelet, and the 316L stainless steel is sculpted in a relatively modest way, without any fussy facets or details. It’s a simple, almost block-like design, but its slim 12.2mm thickness and 46mm lug-to-lug width keep the proportions minimal, conforming well to most wrists. For a relatively simple three-hander, the watch is packed with features, such as an internal soft-iron Faraday cage that delivers anti-magnetic properties up to 1000 gauss, and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that offers five layers of anti-reflective coating. You can just tell that these are all hallmark specifications of things requested by enthusiasts.

Then there’s the crown, which, like many others, is the screw-down variety, delivering a solid 200 metres of water resistance, which is impressive at this price level on its own. That is, until you find out that the crown houses a transparent chamber, filled with real sand from the Australian beaches that inspired the look of the watches; Sydney for the Oceanic Blue, and Coorong Beach for the Coorong Mist. That’s a pretty cool feature that I don’t think I’ve ever seen anywhere else.

As I mentioned, the bracelet is fully integrated into the steel case, connected via small, quick-release couplings that attach the first polished mid-link of the bracelet. The H-link bracelet tapers all the way down to the folding clasp, which features a micro-adjustment system that can be adjusted on the fly, without the need for tools. Finally, up top, the watch is finished with a uni-directional rotating bezel which features two scales on the insert: an outer 60-minute counter in brushed black, and a 12-hour chapter ring on the inside to track a second time zone, without the need for a GMT movement, this is finished in a colour that matches the dial, and brings some contrast and colour to the watch overall.

Speaking of colour, the dials on the Elementals are particularly interesting. First up, Oceanic Blue is available once more, just as we saw in November, but this time a new, more understated colourway has joined the range: Coorong Mist. Inspired by Australia’s Coorong Beach, the longest beach in the country, which stretches 194km along the southern coast. It’s finished in a taupe, sand-coloured lacquer that is textured to replicate how sand ripples from the motion of the sea. To add to the mesmerising look, the colour graduates into a darker brown towards the edges, giving the dial a deep, dimensional look. As before, the dial is finished with polished applied indices and large, Super-LumiNova-filled hands, making it as legible as possible, even underwater. Unusually, there’s a small, circular date window at 3 o’clock, magnified by a circular cyclops on the crystal; it may be divisive, but it doesn’t look misplaced.

In typical Australian no-nonsense style, the Elemental is equipped with a Sellita SW200 automatic movement, which is the perfect choice, as it offers accurate, efficient timekeeping with no frills or needless additions. There’s a 38-hour power reserve, 4 Hz beat rate, and an accuracy rating of -5/+5 seconds per day, which is everything you will ever need from a watch like this. Plus, the dimensions are slim enough that it means the overall design of the watch can remain pretty conservative. The movement is hidden beneath a solid caseback; clearly another community-led choice, which features an underwater sand texture engraved into it.
