Baltic finally answers calls for a date-equipped Aquascaphe MK2

Tom Austin
  • Baltic expands its Aquascaphe MK2 collection with the first date-equipped models in the range.
  • A discreet 6 o’clock date display is paired with the Miyota 9015 automatic movement, while retaining the MK2’s slim 12.9mm profile.
  • The existing no-date models remain alongside the new references, with the 37mm and 39.5mm case sizes, four dial colours and multiple bracelet and strap options.

Baltic’s Aquascaphe MK2 quickly established itself as one of the standout dive watches in its segment when it launched last year, refining the original Aquascaphe with an entirely new case, revised dial architecture and improved ergonomics. Now, the French brand is expanding that collection with something many collectors have been asking for: a date display. Rather than replacing the existing model, Baltic is adding a second family of references powered by the Miyota 9015, introducing a neatly integrated date window at 6 o’clock while leaving the no-date Aquascaphe MK2 in the catalogue.

Since the watch itself remains unchanged, the Aquascaphe MK2 continues to be offered in both 37mm and 39.5mm case sizes, measuring 12.9mm thick and spanning 45mm or 47mm lug-to-lug depending on diameter. The stainless steel case retains its wide lugs, flat-topped crown guard and drilled lugs, alongside a double-domed sapphire crystal and sapphire bezel insert. The 120-click unidirectional bezel features a full minute scale, while the screw-down crown and solid caseback maintain the watch’s 200 metres of water resistance.

The dial remains one of the Aquascaphe MK2’s strongest features. Baltic’s Maxi Dial layout combines raised Lumicast hour markers filled with Super-LumiNova BGW9, broad faceted hands, and a printed minute track that visually links the dial and bezel. Buyers can choose between glossy blue and green dials or grained grey and warm silver finishes.

On the new date models, the aperture sits at 6 o’clock, framed by a finely bevelled window with a colour-matched date wheel that preserves the symmetry of the original design. It is a subtle addition that feels as though it has always been part of the watch.

The introduction of the date also brings a movement change. Existing no-date references continue with the Miyota 9039 automatic calibre, while the new models use the Miyota 9015. Both movements offer automatic winding, hacking seconds and a 42-hour power reserve, with the 9015 allowing Baltic to incorporate the date complication without increasing the watch’s overall thickness.

The new references are available on Baltic’s Rubber Classic FKM straps, beads-of-rice bracelet or flat-link bracelet. The Rubber Classic strap features a saffiano-style texture and was developed specifically for the MK2, offering an alternative to the brand’s sportier rubber option while remaining fully water-resistant.

Baltic has broadened the collection with a well-executed date option that will appeal to buyers who prefer the added practicality of a calendar display. The original no-date model remains available, giving collectors the choice between two executions of one of the strongest modern vintage-inspired dive watches currently in the smaller independent scene.
