Atelier Nossedh’s AN.01 is a tasty (Tondi) vintage-inspired chronograph
Borna Bošnjak- The AN.01 is Atelier Nossedh’s first release, picking up where 1940s chronograph designs left off.
- With a dual-register layout, the Swedish brand uses a compact 37mm steel case housing a manually-wound Sellita SW510 calibre.
- Priced at €2,200, the AN.01 will be available for pre-orders over the next few months, ending on January 30th 2026.
When it comes to measured elegance in watch design, there is no period so revered as the golden decade of the 1940s. Iconic names like the Rolex Datejust first saw the light of day, while collectors’ darlings such as Longines’ “tre tacche” chronographs and Patek Philippe’s ref. 1463 “Tasti Tondi” graced the wrists of those in danger of slipping into the pool of the Hôtel de Paris while sipping on some fine champagne. The AN.01, Atelier Nossedh’s inaugural effort, looks to capture some of this magic, though modernising it somewhat to satisfy a contemporary, enthusiast audience.
Not unlike many microbrands, the AN.01 launches with no less than six dial variants, split across two finishes. More traditional, matte variants count four entries – a dark champagne, opaline white, fan-favourite salmon, and no-frills black- but my favourite of the lot is the almost-burgundy copper sunburst, however, with a dark blue rounding out the options. Depending on the colour you choose, the AN.01 opts for either a pair of Romans or Arabics at the 12 and 6, with all the other indices being raised dots. The leaf hands are non-luminous, as is expected for this style of watch, with the minutes reaching all the way to the edge and necessitating a slight curve at the tip. I’m especially fond of the central chronograph hand, which has a very pleasing widening from the tip along its length, all the way down to the counterbalance.
Squeezed in around the perimeter is a double railroad of the tachymeter scale and the minutes track, the latter being interrupted by the azuraged sub-dials at 3 and 9 o’clock. Overall, the dials are well-balanced with the maker’s signature at 12 and “manual chronograph” at 6 o’clock, though I’d be happy to see the former made smaller and the latter completely removed. The colours are wonderful enough to speak for themselves, I think.
While the dial design is undoubtedly inspired by one of the many Tasti Tondi variants, the case doesn’t quite follow in its sporty (for the era) footsteps. For starters, the pump pushers of the AN.01 are a lot more diminutive and dressy, as are the non-drilled lugs and concave, polished bezel. Finally, it features a snap-on caseback versus a screw-down that was the defining feature of these original “waterproof” chronographs.
In fairness, I’m not upset with the design direction Atelier Nossedh took, considering a watch like this would not be considered sporty at all today, though I do wish the case had a touch more embellishment, be it a lug facet or crown engraving.
On the wrist, the 37mm diameter is a touch smaller than what you’d see from most Sellita SW500-powered watches, but it’s by no means undersized. Combining with a 44mm lug-to-lug, these are the perfect dimensions for a 1940s-inspired chronograph today – small enough to indulge those who see 37mm as “jumbo”, while not alienating anyone else. At 12.5mm in thickness, it’s not particularly slim, though considering that as a constraint of the 7mm-thick SW510, it’s a good effort.
And since I’ve already mentioned the movement twice, let’s run through some of its most important specs. To refer to it by its full name, Atelier Nossedh uses a Sellita SW510 M élaboré calibre for the AN.01. Being manually wound, it shaves off 0.9mm when compared to its self-winding counterpart, still featuring a 63-hour power reserve and 4Hz beat rate.
A clone of the ETA 7750, the SW510 M still relies on a cam architecture for chronograph operation. Of the three SW510 variants, the élaboré is the entry-level, but that does not make it a slouch. It’s tested in three positions and regulated to an average of +/-5 seconds per day.
