Anthony Joshua’s watch collection currently outweighs his boxing titles…

But that’s absolutely fine by us. Here’s what the Brit has been flaunting on his wrist while he waits for the chance to get his heavyweight champion belt back.

A couple of months or so ago in late September, very few people predicted that Joshua would be outboxed and ultimately beaten by Oleksandr Usyk. But given the fight took place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, fans can at least blame the venue for his particularly Spursy performance.

Cheap football dig over, while promoter Eddie Hearn has since been doing what he does best – talk up boxing bouts – to agree on a rematch so Joshua can retrieve the heavyweight title he feels should be his, he’s been busy delivering knockouts of an entirely different nature.

We’re talking several notable watch spots. Let’s start with the most recent, where he posed on a fluffy white chair wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph, but not just any old Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph. This one is a gigantic 48mm. It’s 18K pink gold and factory set with 673 brilliant-cut diamonds and 332 diamonds littered around the dial, case and bracelet. Weighing in at about £225,000, we’ll allow you a moment to try and count the 1005 diamonds yourself before continuing. Introduced in 2015, this particular timepiece features the T3 style case with the pushpiece-protectors to provide a bit of extra protection to the crown – something AJ could certainly have done with in the ring.

While the bling gets most of the attention, I’m a big fan of the chocolate brown of the bold Arabic numerals and the eye is still very much drawn to the time despite the dial having a lot going on. Indeed, consistent with the original Royal Oak Offshore’s vertical counter display, where the hour, 30-minutes and small seconds counters are at 6, 9 and 12 respectfully, there is also a date window next to rather than instead of the 3 o’clock. This does make the dial busier than perhaps it need be, but then at 48mm, there is more space than usual to incorporate such designs.

With his trophy cabinet a little bare at the moment, he also likely has some of his other APs on show too. Most notable is his Black Panther Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon born out of the watchmaker’s partnership with Marvel. Joshua rather ceremoniously treated his Instagram followers to an impromptu unboxing of the watch that’s limited to 250 pieces. Irrespective of whether the watch is attractive or not, if revealing such an anticipated piece worth more than £120,000 is not a good use of Instagram Live, I don’t know what is.

Love or hate the concept piece, there’s no arguing over how bonkers the Black Panther Concept is as the first watch from a creative collaboration – talk about setting the tone. At 42mm, it’s one of the smaller pieces in Joshua’s collection and Marvel fan or not, you can’t deny not marvelling (sorry) at the dial, which is one of most creative expressions of haute horology in recent memory. Yes, that’s a hand-engraved Black Panther figure sat above an exposed tourbillon at 6 o’clock.

There’s plenty more to choose from, but these two you could describe as more everyday pieces of Joshua’s – a recently discontinued rose gold Royal Oak chronograph and an Oak Offshore Self-winding Chronograph.

The 18 karat rose-gold Royal Oak is pretty ideal for all kinds of occasions where you’re trying to stay under the radar while the 41mm Offshore brings out the action man in Joshua. While his greatness as a boxer is yet to be truly proven, there’s no denying his watch box already looks very strong indeed.
