Alpina introduces its first-ever all-titanium watch, a 39mm Alpiner Extreme Automatic
Tom Austin- Alpina’s latest interpretation of its rugged yet classy sports watch is now available in grade 2 titanium, with a unique, satin-finished silver dial.
- Exclusively available in the 39mm version, the new titanium Alpiner Extreme is ideally sized for most wrists and is now lighter than ever.
- The release marks Alpina’s first use of titanium in its watches, offering not only a unique look for its lineup, but it is also more robust, in line with Alpina’s brand heritage of tool watches.
Alpina has a long history of making sports watches, and while it’s open to debate on what defines a sports watch, it’s fair to say that from any angle you take, Alpina manages to produce watches that meet most practical requirements. Since their very first sports watch, the Alpina 4 in 1938, they have taken features like water and shock resistance, anti-magnetism and rugged materials very seriously, and now, in 2025, they’ve taken it one step further with the new Alpiner Extreme Automatic Titanium, the brand’s first-ever all-titanium watch.
Currently, there are three size options across the Alpiner Extreme range: 41mm, 39mm, and 34mm. The brawny case design of the Extreme meant that the 39mm release in 2024 was very welcomed, making the watch more accessible to a broader audience, and just offering a slightly more refined and compact package. The use of titanium in this new model makes perfect sense for Alpina to use the more recent 39mm x 40.5mm design, utilising its compactness and ensuring it sits within the current size trends we’re all loving right now.
Talking of trends, the case features an integrated bracelet design, just not in the way you know it. Made in three parts, the main section of the case features a cushion design, with the bracelet lugs extending from the inner part of the “sandwich”. The result is a striking, angular aesthetic, which is equally functional, as its construction manages to secure 200 meters of water resistance thanks to the screw-down crown and engraved case back.
It’s not just all about the case material and construction with the Alpiner, though. Like many watches in this category, the Alpiner features a textured dial with a satin silver finish and is adorned with its iconic triangle motif pattern. Although the colour isn’t particularly exciting, it does differentiate it from the rest of the range. The applied hour markers are finished in high-polish black mother-of-pearl, topped with white luminous material to keep the time legible. And finally, there’s a flash of red on the second hand, breaking things up a little and livening up the dial.
As with all automatic Alpine Alpiner Extremes, the watch comes equipped with the Sellita SW-200-1-based Alpina AL-525 calibre, beating at 4Hz and offering a 38-hour power reserve. The titanium version keeps the movement hidden with an engraved solid case back, and I’m all for this – it helps to keep weight at a minimum, and there really is no need for a sapphire case back on a watch like this. It does hide the cool asymmetric rotor on the movement, though. However, I think weight and robustness are the priorities here.
Finishing off the watch, again for the first time, is a full solid grade 2 titanium bracelet, comprised of brushed H-links with neat polishing on the sides. It comes equipped with a neat push-button release folding buckle, and the spring bars are accessible if you prefer to swap the bracelet out for a rubber strap.
