Last week, we hosted an event in our NYC Discovery Studio to officially launch The Frontier, with the founders from many of our Frontier brands, Sartory-Billard, Atelier Wen, Linde Werdelin, and Toledano & Chan in attendance to discuss the origins of their boundary-pushing designs and the frontier of watchmaking they sought to break ground on.
The short of it, to catch all of you who were not in attendance up: Sartory-Billard democratised bespoke watchmaking, allowing clients to truly personalise a watch in an Inception-like way. Starting with the seed of an idea, the dreamer (you) and the architect (Armand, founder of Sartory-Billard) work together to realise a distinct vision with very few rules standing in your way. Atelier Wen is, of course, known for making guilloche dials more accessible in its Perception watches, but giving Chinese-influenced design its most premium platform and showcase comes in the form of the Inflection – a watch with a full tantalum case and bracelet and custom Girard-Perregaux calibre.
Linde Werdelin sought to create the ultimate adventure watches, with forms inspired by nature and a case silhouette that has become as much of a throughline for the brand as the Oyster Perpetual for Rolex. And, the ultimate goal, the case form has become iconic enough to be recognised from across a room. Then, of course, we have the brutalist beauties courtesy of Toledano & Chan, highly curated expressions that belong as much in a museum as they do on your wrist.

Toledano & Chan b/1.3r “Gold Ripple”
The b/1.3r “Gold Ripple” proves that Toledano& Chan isn’t content to simply iterate on one of independent watchmaking’s most distinctive designs. Instead of reaching for another stone dial, founders Phil Toledano and Alfred Chan have created a mesmerising 18-carat solid gold dial, its rippling surface inspired by disturbed water and brought to life beneath the watch’s distinctive faceted crystal. The iconic, brutally asymmetric grade 5 titanium case has also been subtly refined, shrinking to 32mm for improved wearability while retaining its unmistakable brutalist character. Powered by the dependable Sellita SW100 automatic movement, the b/1.3r perfectly embodies the design-led, founder-driven philosophy behind The Frontier, where originality and thoughtful execution take precedence over convention.

Atelier Wen Inflection Mò Black 墨 (Mò)
The Atelier Wen Inflection is one of the most technically ambitious sports watches to emerge from the independent scene in recent years. Rather than using tantalum sparingly, Atelier Wen has crafted both the 40mm case and integrated bracelet entirely from the notoriously difficult metal, pairing its distinctive blue-grey sheen with beautifully executed grand feu enamel dials. Beneath the sapphire caseback sits a customised Girard-Perregaux GP03300 automatic movement, featuring bridges reworked with a Chinese-inspired motif that reinforces the brand’s design identity. With production intentionally limited, the Inflection represents exactly the kind of thoughtful watchmaking The Frontier exists to showcase: uncompromising in its materials, refined in its execution, and willing to push beyond the conventions of modern luxury sports watches.

The Linde Werdelin SpidoLite 3DTP Carbon 3D Movement is a showcase of the brand’s relentless pursuit of lightweight engineering. Limited to 75 pieces, its skeletonised outer case is crafted from proprietary 3DTP carbon, a material that took four years to perfect and reduces the outer case weight to just 3.8 grams without compromising strength. The openworked design continues through the dial, revealing the customised LW07 automatic movement complete with a power reserve indicator, while the bold architecture remains unmistakably Linde Werdelin. More than just a showcase of exotic materials, the SpidoLite demonstrates how technical innovation and purposeful design can work hand in hand.

Sartory Billard x Time+Tide SB04-E “Foundry”
Created exclusively for Time+Tide, the Sartory-Billard SB04-E “Foundry” is a limited edition of just 10 pieces inspired by the architectural character of New York City. Its multi-level metallic-brown dial draws on Art Deco facades, decorative ironwork, and aged brass details, combining engraved geometric motifs with applied numerals designed by Simon Schmidt. Housed in a 39.5mm stainless steel case with 100 metres of water resistance, it also features a solid engraved caseback depicting the New York skyline, exclusive to this collaboration. Power comes from the reliable La Joux-Perret G101A automatic movement with a 55-hour power reserve, while a chocolate-brown rubber strap gives the watch a more casual edge. It’s a thoughtful, highly wearable interpretation of Sartory-Billard’s distinctive design language, created exclusively for Time+Tide’s New York chapter.
