TAG Heuer ambassador Cara Delevingne looks like the fiery type. And with a well documented love of lions (she has one tattooed on her right index finger) we can only imagine how she reacted to the killing of Cecil the lion last month by an American dentist Walter Palmer. The sad development from this story is that Cecil’s cub was yesterday killed by a rival male lion. Tragic stuff.

Delevingne is doing something about it. She has listed her personal prototype TAG Heuer Carrera Signature Edition, with a lion engraved on the caseback, for sale on eBay. She will be donating all funds raised by the sale to WildCRU.org

Cara’s call to arms:

“The killing of Cecil the Lion was a tragedy,” Delevingne says on the eBay page. “Today JOIN ME to help the scientists who care about the future of wild lions in Africa and work very hard on their conservation. Ahead of the official sale of my TAG Heuer Signature Edition I decided to auction my personal timepiece prototype. I wore this watch on several occasions and during the last Monaco Grand Prix. The full amount will be refunded to WildCRU.org, the research unit that followed Cecil for many years. SO LET’S JOIN FORCES.”

The auction ends on 10th of August BST (that’d be today) and at the time of publishing the highest bid was £9,200 ($19,266 AUD) after 86 bids. The Delevingne Signature Edition Carrera is powered by a Swiss quartz movement and retails between 3000 and 6500 Swiss francs depending upon whether or not it includes diamonds. Delevingne’s personal model, pictured above features 72 Wesselton white diamonds, around one-carat in total weight.

WildCRU is part of the University of Oxford, and has been working to conserve lions in the wild. Cecil the lion was part of WildCRU’s research group.

TAG Heuer will match the amount raised in the auction.

Well done Cara, wishing her the best for the auction, which closes in just 10 hours.
